I am hoping that Digital Bits is correct because they are saying that Superman Returns will have a Dolby True HD track. I am not sure if it would be better in DTS-HD or not. But at least they will have a lossless track. That is as long as Digital Bits is correct in saying that SMR will contain a lossless track.

The only reason to suspect a DTS-HD Master Audio track might be better than a Dolby TrueHD track is if one was downconverted to 16 bit and the other the original master at 24/48 or 24/96 or even remotely 24/192.

There is no reason for any studio to drop a master quality lossless encoding if they utilize the space correctly. Now we have BD50's coming on board so this should be a moot point entirely. Unless the disc is specifically going to be music only (like DVD-Audio or SA-CD) then one could argue that uncompressed LPCM might be best rather than lossless packing. Although, if it's a movie and there are going to be extras--1080p extras especially--then lossless would give you a little more room.

But to have a BD50 at your disposal and only use Dolby Digital lossy is inexcusable.

Contact,
L.A. Confidential ( the music and the shootout )

....and can anyone tell why Universal are putting out most discs without Dolby TrueHD when they're a HD-Dvd only studio ????
