I got my first HK in highschool back in '84. It lasted me 17 years w/o any problems (and is now sitting in my basement). In '01 I replaced it with the AVR 310 - the sound was so much better than any other mid-range unit (IMHO). In '02 the 310 blew-up on me (under warranty). Would "kick-off" after about 2 seconds every time I turned it on. Was fixed until last week when the same thing happened. Repair shop (HK recommended) seems stumped on problem and has requested factory help. If estimate is over $60 to fix, I'm junking and will not go back to HK. In the 90s I heard HK had a lot of issues but got the ship righted around 2000. I'm beginning to suspect the ship is still taking water.

Funny. I had a Harmon Kardon CD player with a remote which consisted of black rectangular keys laid out in an orderly pattern on a dark grey background. Form over Function.

And my Onkyo 502 came with a very ergonomic remote that was comfortable to use. No learning, so I replaced it with a Harmony.
