Okay, I know this has probably been done before, but the search was down. Also, I shamelessly stole this idea from another forum, but since I mostly visit this one, I'd like to see some of the responses of the members here.
Here is my short list of movies that need to be redone:
  • Sea of Love
  • Vertigo
  • Karate Kid
  • Psycho
  • Planes, Trains and Automobiles
  • My So-Called Life
  • Antz (direct digital transfer, just to see if there's any improvements)
  • Raging Bull
  • The Deer Hunter
  • Planet of the Apes, original
Anyone else?
(My apologies to MikeM at the AVS Forum for borrowing this idea!) :)

The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly. "Dolby Digital" in this DVD means center channel only!
Argggghhhhh!

The Rocketeer would be my #1 pick.
Phenomena, Tenebrae, and She's All That (sings "one of these things is not like the others...") would be tied for a distant second, just for anamorphic transfers.

I have to watch Raging Bull again,I dont remember it being a bad transfer.
Scarface would be my #1 pick.
The transfer hasnt stopped my from enjoying it like it has others. That said, it would be nice to see it restored with a really decent audio mix.A good 2.0 mix would be fine.

Purple Rain
The current version should completely embarrass Warner reps; it is pathetic in every sense of the word.

Real Name
Rain
All the President's Men
The Apartment
A Streetcar Named Desire
The Wizard of Oz (original mono track please)
These are 3 that come immediately to mind. Probably most of the stuff that came out in the early days (1997-ish) could stand a redo.

A special edition 2-disc set of "Who Framed Roger Rabbit". Complete and un-edited, and include the three shorts that were produced.

I would also like to see Superman II redone with better sound at least.
I also wouldn't mind a version of this movie with the scenes that were only shown on TV. In other words, I would love to see the version of this movie as envisioned by Richard Donner...

One word: Ran.
Re: Swingers -- there's a thread over at DVD Talk Forum that led me to the website for the movie Made, where Jon Favreau has been leaving periodic updates on the movie, etc. One of his messages is intriguing....
quote: Vince, Peter and I all met with Alita, our DVD producer. She's got a lot of great ideas (so many, in fact, that I got her hired on to do the Swingers SE, which we'll work on next) and we all pored over outtakes and deleted scenes. The navigation will be very cool. On Friday we're going to shoot the commentary tracks and tape for the documentary, which will also be included. The screenplay will also be on the disc. All this, and they promise it will be done and available by Christmas 2001. Merry Christmas to all our fans. We got a lot of goodies for you on this one.[/quote]
So it sounds like a Swingers: SE is pending sometime in early 2002 or so.
p.s. Would this "Alita" be Alita Holly, sister of HTF's own Morgan Holly?
