This is not a Blu-ray versus HD DVD thread. Don't even try.
It's five years from now. The format war is over and the "right" format (whatever you want...can even be a unified format) is established in the market. Done.
A rich benefactor buys you the 1080P projector of your dreams. It has perfect specs so don't debate DLP/LCD/LCOS in this thread either.
As part of your "you deserve to indulge your 1080P fantasy because you're such a great guy" reward, God has permitted you to request 10 movie titles (more if you're good) to be released in 1080P HD. They will be perfectly restored, transferred at 4K (even large-format films), and optimally mastered/downconverted to 1080P for transparent compression. They'll all get lossless hi-res audio audio that is indistinguishable from the master (and no remixing for a "near field" environment...you get the original mix) and all the coveted bonus features you could shake a stick at.
Ok...so what movies are you gonna pick?
So far here's what I'm thinking:
Toy Story 1 and 2 (counts as one selection...hehe)
Fifth Element
LOTR trilogy (extended cut...)
Star Wars saga (original versions of original 3 films)
Ben Hur
Sound of Music
2001 a Space Odyssey
Blade Runner
Dune
Fiddler on the Roof
to start...
