I would say that the majority of my original wish list has still yet to be fulfilled, and since this has turned into a wish-list, here's mine.

1. Ace in the Hole (The Big Carnival)
2. Ed Wood
3. Freaks
4. King Kong
5. All remaining Billy Wilder films
6. Bringing Up Baby
7. All remaining Howard Hawks films
8. All remaining Universal Monsters (Creature sequels, etc.)
9. All Marx Brothers films
10. Any Harold Lloyd
11. Any and all Lon Chaney Sr. films
12. After Hours (Scorceses' Best Film - IMHO)
etc... etc... etc...

What am I missing here? Is the DVD catalog almost complete?
Not even close! There are 10 000's and 10 000's of movies NOT on DVD but are released on VHS or LD. There are also many movies not even released on VHS but only had a short theater run.

So DVD will never put out all the movies I want. MANY, MANY will only available on VHS and some on LD.

Here are some titles that I would love that aren't out yet:

Star Wars OT (Hopefully 2004)
The Double Life of Veronique
Aladdin (2004, right?)
The rest of the Hitchcock catalog - I have 10+ to go, chief among them:
The Wrong Man
Dial M For Murder
I Confess
Stage Fright
Lifeboat
Suspicion

Sadly I'm not multi-region capable.

As others have stated: David Lynch's Lost Highway (my most anticipated for quite a while) and of course Wild at Heart.

Beatles Let it Be, obviously. Loads of other music oriented films. 200 Motels anyone?

But the premise of the thread is correct. A lot of modern cinema is out.

It looks like nobody has mentioned The Sting yet on this thread. All it has right now is a pan&scan transfer, which obviously doesn't count. A nice OAR, anamorphic transfer would go into my collection immediately upon release.

I agree. After watching Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid tonight on a gorgeous DVD, The Sting seriously needs to be released the right way.

Hey Rich-

Is the available Butch Cassidy an anamorphic disc?

Yeah, Haggai, The Sting would be a good one to see
in OAR- I'm only familiar with the 4:3 version.

My little list of wishes-

The Four Seasons (nobody has mentioned this one)
Same Time Next Year (ditto)
Fandango
Eating Raoul
Silver Streak
Just One Of The Guys
Bill Cosby Himself
Wise Guys
Pink Floyd- Pulse
Educating Rita

Also it would be nice to see a proper, non-flipper
release of Goodfellas, and a special edition of Raising
Arizona.

Lots of my personal faves appearing in the previous pages.

Having unwittingly started a similaric thread on this the other day, I thought I should pass on my observation from there about how few movies, excluding anime, documentaries, music videos, porn, exercise-self help, etc., and of course, contemporary productions, were featured in Amazon's current FUTURE BEST SELLERS list.

Which lead me to hope that the industry might be driven to mine the vaults for the gems and classics, even if they are only for niche markets.

This may require independent businesses who have the savvy and tenacity to penetrate the legal- business labyrinths where so many of these gems are hidden, and consumers ("the discerning few") who are willing to pay a fair price for what will be a small production run.

But, Oh Happy Day, if such as WC Fields POPPY, or the Australian BLISS were to come to DVD! :)

After watching The Thin Man the other day, I'd really like to see the rest of the films in the series. I hope they come to DVD soon.

John, I saw that Bliss is due for '04, but I have no idea how much or when. Those are the 1/2 hour adult ones?

Glenn, you must be thinking of another kind of bliss :)

The one I am referring to is called a "black comedy" on All Movie Guide

http://www.allmovie.com/cg/x.dll?p=avg&sql=A6061

Anchor Bay was listing that title as forthcoming, but with never any detail to confirm it is the film I am thinking of, and with Anchor Bay being sold, I am not optimistic that the movie is "coming soon". :frowning:

Cool. Two shows with the same name. I think the others were from Canada, but I don't know which ones were scheduled for release.
Even if they do get sold, if they were 'in the works' it would be dumb to just drop it.

If I recall correctly, the Internet Movie Database has 200,000 listings (about 10 times the number of DVDs released), so anyone who thinks we're "close" is off by 180,000. :)

There are 10 000's and 10 000's movies left to be released on DVD. Many, many of them will not come on DVD :frowning:
