The Abyss was never released in an anamorphic 16x9 version, even though its ever changing packaging continues to insist that it is. While that was fine for my regular tv, when I went HD it no longer cut the mustard.

Das Boot
Stalingrad
Apocalypse Now
All of Miyazaki's films
All of Disney's Classic animated films
20000 Leagues Under the Sea
Twelve O'Clock High
The Dawn Patrol
Tombstone
Paths of Glory
Damn The Defiant (properly restored)
The rest of Pixar's films

Those are good for a start.

I would have to say that my top picks for titles that I would like to see on Blu-ray would be:
  • Lord Of The Rings Trilogy EE (DTS-HD MA 7.1)
  • Back To The Future (DTS-HD MA or Dolby True HD)
  • All 20 James Bond Films (Dolby True HD 7.1 for the newer Bond titles)
  • All Star Trek Movies (DTS-HD MA 6.1)
  • Jurassic Park Trilogy (DTS-HD MA 7.1)
  • Saving Private Ryan (DTS-HD MA 7.1)
  • Gladiator (DTS-HD MA 7.1)
  • All Star Wars Movies (Dolby True HD 7.1 for Episode 1-3, 6.1 for 4-6)
  • X-Men 1 & 2 (DTS-HD MA 7.1)
  • Indiana Jones Trilogy (DTS-HD MA or Dolby True HD)
  • Tombstone
  • Das Boot
  • Band Of Brothers
  • Lethal Weapon 1-4 (Directors Cut) (Lossless Audio)
  • The Abyss
  • Dead Poet's Society
  • With Honors
  • Alien Quadrilogy
  • Highlander Trilogy
  • Battlestar Galactica (Re-invissioned)
  • Planet Of The Apes Collection (Planet Of The Apes, Beneath The Planet Of The Apes, Escape From The Planet Of The Apes, Conquest Of The Planet Of The Apes and Battle For The Planet of The Apes: Extended Edition)
  • E.T.: The Extra-Terrestrial
  • War Of The Worlds
  • True Lies
  • The Shadow
  • Schindler's List
  • The Bourne Trilogy
And I would like to see every title with lossless audio! While I would like to see DTS-HD MA tracks on many HD Blu-ray titles. In the end it does not matter if it is DTS-HD MA, Dolby True HD or LPCM. The nice thing is that there is not a big difference like there use to be with lossy DTS and DD. I always prefered DTS over DD any day of the week. But the differences between the differnet lossless formats does not seem to be audible.

I hope the studios will put these titles on Blu-ray as soon as possible. Without rushing them to the point where quality is effected. The above mentioned titles IMHO will have to be perfect as anything less would not be acceptable.

Kind of surprised I haven't heard True Romance mentioned yet. I'll add that one to my wish list. Most of QT's work, for that matter.

Wow Ray. When you make a list you make a list!

I forgot about Munich. I would love to see that too.

I grew up in the South Bay. How's the Boardwalk these days?

I have a list of films and some television series I would like to see on Blu-ray, but I'll only list a couple films:

The Freshman (1990): Special Edition (would be a great tie-in for the rumored Godfather trilogy)
Scrooge (1970): Special Edition
The Bourne Identity
The Bourne Supremacy
The Bourne Ultimatum
Star Trek: The Motion Picture (especially the original theatrical cut)
Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan (especially the original theatrical cut)
Star Trek III: The Search for Spock
Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home
Star Trek V: The Final Frontier
Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country (especially the original theatrical cut)
Star Trek: Generations
Star Trek: First Contact
Star Trek: Insurrection
The X-Files: Fight the Future

It's worth noting that a lot of these titles have been stated by various studios for release on Blu-ray. For instance, "LA Confidential" and "The Doors" from Ray's list are both announced as SEs with release dates (September 23 for the former, August 12 for the latter).

Others are announced as SEs with no firm release dates but are confirmed for release on Blu-ray later this year or next. This includes the LOTR trilogy, the BTTF trilogy, many of the big Warner/MGM classics, "Band of Brothers", and the "X-Men" films.

STAR WARS dammit! I'm still pissed we didn't get shit (SD or BD) for the goddamn 30th anniversary. They should've at least done a box of all 6 on SD by now.

Armageddon
Escape From LA
Judge Dread
Deep Rising
Titanic
King Kong - EXTENDED fucking CUT
Scarface
Punisher - Extended Cut
Payback - the bloody THEATRICAL release!!

p.s. Why the hell isn't Rosco Jenkins announced for BD yet? The SD is out this week.

I never thought about this one. I would love to see Clue: The Movie, as long as Paramount carries over the option to watch the alternate endings and the theatrical trailer (in HD, if possible). Hopefully also we'd see more extras.

I wouldn't hold my breath on original theatrical cuts of the Trek movies. TMP isn't even available in SD with its original cut and the studio is NOT interested in revisiting it. Same goes for the other two (though Khan does have an extant original release). TUC has NEVER been released in its original cut. There is a chance the latter two could see the light of day as original cuts, but TMP is about as likely as watching a Stanley Cup parade in Madagascar.

Since when does a movie have to have special effects to look good?

Godfather 1 and 2 are masterpieces of cinematography. Blu Ray would make a superb job of the dark scenes. Sure, they look great on the SD DVD, but Blu Ray would make them a whole lot better.

Rosemary's Baby would be fantastic. How about it, Paramount?! It's 40 years old this year!

The Bond films will be amazing too; as long as the extras are all in tact!

Fox already leaked that "Firefly" would be coming this year, and IIRC "Serenity" is one of the Universal titles that they also said would hit this year. They're rumored for Sept/Oct, but as always, nothing is sure.

Of course. But I would still not be compelled to repurchase these titles. Have to make concessions somewhere until Blu Ray prices go down. A lot!
