I have been looking to buy the new pioneer dv-563a universal player with dvd-a and sacd for only $179(wow!). On a web site I read that there is also going to be an "upmodel" dv-663a that has HDMI output. only problem is I don't know what HDMI is and if it would be something worth the wait and extra $50 price tag.

HDMI is basically a new revision of the DVI digital video connection. It has a physically different connector, but it's backwards compatible with DVI via a simple adapter.
