Don't fear the Evil Hand Brian, you must love it, worship it, Evil Hand is your friend.
Now repeat after me "Evil hand is my friend" and "Satan is good, Satan is our pal", keep chanting that... feels good eh? :D

[nggg.. okay Evil you can let go now....]

ps. Still have no idea what a Walloon is, and why I might fear it.

Since I didn't know what a Walloon is, I looked it up. (Good thing I don't have lexiphobia...)

A Walloon is a French-speaking person of Celtic descent inhabiting southern or southeast Belgium, or adjacent regions of France.

Whoa! Now THAT'S scary!

I can understand enclosed spaces, but how does someone have a fear of wide open spaces? Why would someone consider that scary?

My understanding of it, is that it comes from an instinctual response to being open to attack (no place to hide, no place to defend yourself, no place to protect yourself from falling objects, etc).

Brian, at least now we understand why there's a phobia of it, brrr! ;)

Probeophobia - "Um, Doctor, why are you putting on that rubber glove?"

Rentanotherpornophobia - "You`re busy Saturday? Well, how about next weekend then?"

Shrinkaphobia - "Hey, this is a nude beach. I ain`t getting in that cold water!"

Smallpenisphobia - "Honey, I bought a Corvette!"

When I was a kid, I wasn't scared of wide open spaces exactly, but I was afraid of large/open enclosures. For example, an empty airplane hangar would freak me out. I guess it was the shear size that would scare me. The fact that that it was open made it seem more menacing because you could see every bit of it in one shot. It was this feeling of smallness in comparison that would creep me out.

They don't freak me out as much now, but when I go to concerts (or hockey games) at these giant arenas like MSG, I still get chills looking at the inside of them. The massive seating, the high roof, the shear size of the building, etc.

As David stated, I guess the fear stems from feeling insecure. The place just seems too big to provide adequate shelter and comfort. I feel safer in a small/cozy room.

And I thought I was the only one who has this fear! Mark, you just described the feeling to a 'T'.
