Just thought I'd report back to the group about my FYE experience tonight. I thought I'd investigate the FYE deal even though I had already placed an order with fye.com (net $34.99). It turns out that FYE has it for $49.99 and they give you a $15 rebate certificate in store. This was a bit disappointing to me since to get the $34.99 deal from fye.com I had to opt for standard shipping. I placed the order on the 17th and it shipped on the 20th with an anticipated delivery of 3-7 days. Best case I'll get it on Thursday, worst case next Tuesday. Since my FYE B&M is only 1 mile away I should have waited and the product would be in my hands today while still needing to wait 7-10 weeks to get the rebate

. Live and learn. The practical issue is that I would not have had the opportunity to watch it till the weekend and I probably still have a 50:50 shot at getting it by Friday or Saturday noon.

I had no problems with the Fry's price match at the West Hollywood Best Buy this morning at opening. The clerk couldn't really believe the price, but asked no questions as she filled out the form.

The rest of the people behind me though did have plenty of questions, once they saw the price I got. I felt badly for the poor clerk having to deal with all of them as I was leaving.

Well, my coconuts.com order from last Tuesday hadn't even shipped yet and I was told when I inquired via e-mail that they didn't know when it would ship. Based on everyone's posts about the UPC code for the rebate, I cancelled that order and went down to my local Walmart with the Fry's $36.99 ad and they price matched. For the record, the San Clemente, CA, Walmart had it for $47.82.

I looked at the box set at FYE and the UPC is on the bottom of the box, I believe. On that basis removing it shouldn't mar the appearance of the box as far as I'm concerned. YMMV.

Thanks to mike posting the CompUSA ad in the other threaed, I had no trouble PM'ing at BB, even though the nearest CompUSA is at least 35 miles away and we definitely do not get their flyers in our local paper. With my latest $5 reward certificate, it made it $34.99.

I am finding the Wal-Mart prices interesting, as well, but I don't do Wal-Mart anymore. A company who makes $8 BILLION in net profits who can't pay their employees a living wage or provide decent health care doesn't need my business. (sorry--I'll get off the soapbox, now)

When I asked what he meant, apparently this local BB has decided that a 5 mile radius is the definition of their local area, and since the nearest Fry's is like 12 miles away, they aren't PM'ing.

I didn't feel like arguing so I just took off. But man this sucks ass.

Probably the most surprising post of the whole thread. K-Mart has been AWOL with competitive DVD pricing in recent months...going with near- or full-MSRP on most new releases. Well, my order (which I had placed this past weekend) hadn't shipped either when I cancelled it yesterday. After a few hours my order was still only marked as trying to process the cancellation. Thinking that the Amazon price was only going to last through yesterday, I placed an order there. Unfortunately, this morning the Coconuts order has now shipped and the Amazon order is "getting ready to ship" and cannot be cancelled. I guess I might now have a Christmas present for someone.



Meanwhile, I was looking at the Indiana Jones box and the UPC code there was on an outer paper wrapper covering the back and bottom of the case. If the Star Wars one was done the same it wouldn't be bad cutting that out. Reading here, though, it seems it was only printed on the box itself.
