The Disclaimer
Standard disclaimer: All prices are taken from the websites of each chain, or from their printed advertisements, the Sunday of the week of release (so as to catch any week-of-release sale prices). All prices are subject to change by each chain. Prices and inventory in-store may or may not match the website price. If a price is marked "$_N/A_" in the grid, it means that this title is not shown as available on that chain's website or perhaps in their ads...but it COULD still be in-stores!

$_"LP" means the advertisement says "Low Price", and $_"HP" means the advertisement says "Hot Price". Use of either of these in the Roundup grid indicates that I could not locate a definite price for the item, and the ad is all I have to go on. Retailers use these phrases in advertisements so that they do not violate MAP (Minimum Advertised Price) agreements with the studios. Doing so can cost them thousands or even millions of dollars in co-op advertising funds.

I only include the titles I feel like including (or the ones Dave tells me he's looking for ;o)). In fact, the titles are pretty much the ones I'm personally interested in, with few exceptions. I don't get paid for this, and I don't have time to devote to doing every DVD. So, please don't complain. If there is a title not included in the Roundup that you want to see, just look it up yourself, and be nice enough to post and share the results with everyone...like Dave & I do!

Note that Circuit City does not guarantee their sale prices in Hawaii. Also note that I cannot include Wal-Mart/Sam’s Club prices in the standard Roundup: they set prices at individual stores based on nearby competition, so there is not a way I can say here what price you'll find at YOUR local Wal-Mart/Sam’s Club location. When it comes to Wal-Mart/Sam’s Club prices mentioned at all, just remember that "Your Mileage May Vary".

The Specials

**BE EXTREMELY CAREFUL! Fever PitchAND Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy are available in both OAR and MAR versions...get the correct one!

--Well, things have calmed down since last week’s blockbuster release week!

However, some notes: The 3-disc SE of Chicago seems to have been pulled from this week’s expected release. Also, all Red Sox fans should take note of the alternate release of the movie Fever Pitch. It is called the Boston Red Sox Reversed Curse Edition and features a longer cut of the film and some different extras. Also there are some new combo deals which are being made available this week. I have not included them in the RoundUp table itself because they do not appear to be new releases, but some of you may still be interested. They include: I Know What You Did Last Summer/I Still Know What You Did Last Summer, La Bamba/The Buddy Holly Story and Soccer Dog/Soccer Dog: European Cup. And, I also included in this week’s RoundUp two films which seem to have conflicting release dates: Branded (9/27) and Carlito’s Way: Ultimate Edition (9/27). There is a chance they may show up in stores this week…or maybe not for another week or two.

--For anyone who did NOT get their copy of Lost: Season 1 last week, Circuit City is offering a deal in which you buy Lost: Season 1 and get $5 off any CD. Purchases must be on same receipt. In-store only.

--Also, for those who bought Lost: Series 1 at Best Buy to get the bonus disc and the $10 coupon to use on Desperate Housewives: Season 1 should know that it looks like that deal is about to get even better! Gord Lacey of TVShowsonDVD.com has reported in another thread over in the HT Software Forum:

The Appeal

Any visitor to the Weekly RoundUp should be sure to check out the new Main Portal Page of the Home Theater Forum….FOR TWO VERY GOOD REASONS!

First: Parker & Ron have re-formatted the Portal Page to include exclusive HT industry news you won’t find in any place on the HTF! Second: You will help support the Home Theater Forum and keep it up and running.

Operating the HTF is not free for Parker and Ron. That is why there is advertising throughout the forum and there has been the occasional membership fund drive. THIS IS AN EASY WAY FOR YOU TO HELP…AND IT’S FREE OF CHARGE…AND INFORMATIVE, TOO! :D

If you simply link to the Portal Page when you start your visits to the HTF, that act alone wILL bring revenue to the forum. While it would also be nice if you wanted to click on some of the advertisers’ links and check out their deals and sales (that form of “window shopping” would bring even more revenue to the forum), the simple act of landing on the Portal Page registers a “hit” or “impression” that creates revenue for the HTF.

So, if you’ve been “sneaking in” to the HTF through links to your favorite thread or forum, please take an extra second of your time and land first on the HTF Portal Page. You’ll see the new Industry News sections AND help out financially. THANKS!

Ben Hur, Fever Pitch (Red Sox Version) & Hitchiker's Guide for me. I'll be getting all 3 at Circuit City with a Best Buy 110% guarantee pm. We don't have a Best Buy here but the one north & south of us are close enough that Circuit City has always pricematched them (although I haven't done it in quite a while since Best Buys' prices of late have pretty much always been higher).

That's really a horse of a different color! :D It will be interesting to see what those discs really look like. I have a feeling a lot of people will be keeping their original discs to hve alongside the new set and all its features.

BTW, I hope its not going to be difficult for all us members of Red Sox nation to find the Red Sox version of Fever Pitch at our local stores. If I don't find one on Tuesday, I'm going right to an e-tailer...something I never do. I've just got a feeling that stores outside of Massachusetts may not get too many copies of the Red Sox version...if any.

For example, Circuit City (which is charging a LOT more for the Red Sox version!) states in its Sunday flyer that the Red Sox Edition will be in select stores only. However, Best Buy is featuring both versions prominently in its Sunday flyer and prompts shoppers to choose your favorite Fever Pitch version. It then gives a brief description of both versions...along with equal size photos of the covers.

Mike,
That unnamed person next to Matt Dillon in that Rumble Fish screenshot is Christopher Penn and that's not Mickey O'Rourke but Vincent Spano with the light colored hair.

Come Tuesday, I will have the daunting task of finding a copy of the Red Sox version of FEVER PITCH in St Louis. I may even say "I love movies with happy endings!":D

Another Fry's Tuesday special: "Smallville" S4 for $33.99.

Just checked up on the Ben-Hur controversy. There's obviously been a change in color balance on the new release as opposed to the older one, but calling the horses "yellow" is greatly overstating it. The screen cap Mike put at the top of this thread is from the new edition; if those horses look yellow to anyone, then I would say they need to calibrate their computer monitor.

Craig,

The question of yellow is a comparative one. Compared to the older dvd, it certainly looks yellowish.

Gee, Dillon. Good question. When I surveyed for prices a couple of days ago...it was $27.99 at the website. Don't know why they would have had that kind of last minute change.
