The Disclaimer

Standard disclaimer: All prices are taken from the websites of each chain, or from their printed Sunday advertisements. All prices are subject to change by each chain. Prices and inventory in-store may or may not match the website price.

I, obviously, cannot include EVERY title released in a given week in the RoundUp. The titles included are those that I am interested in...as well as those which I consider will be of interest to a majority of consumers (and sometimes I’ll miss one!). I don't get paid for this, and I don't have the time to list every DVD. So, please don't complain! If there is a title not included in the RoundUp that you want to see, PLEASE just look it up yourself, and be nice enough to post and share the results with everyone!

Note that I cannot include Wal-Mart/Sam’s Club prices in the RoundUp. They set prices at individual stores based on nearby competition, so there is no way I can say here what price you'll find at YOUR local Wal-Mart/Sam’s Club location. And, Circuit City is still out of business...even in Hawaii (where they NEVER guaranteed their prices anyway).

The three Disney movies this week (Oliver & Company, Sword in the Stone, Robin Hood) are already on their way. They should hit my doorstep on Tuesday. Nothing else as far as I'm concerned, considering I picked up five new titles today using U/S.

I will get the long awaited Charlie Chan Collection V2 which will bring us one step closer to getting the complete Monogram series released (3 more left after this one).

Those interested in Gunsmoke may wish to check their local Walmart as that chain has been selling a lot of new CBS/P releases for $19.99 over the past year or so.

Thanks for the round-up.

Thanks for the update, Mike. No problems this time with the pictures, knock wood!

At that price, I'll nibble on Ishtar. I just will feel bad when I watch it. :)

Thanks for the roundup! This is the most I have ever bought at one time in terms of new releases.

Mud, The Place Beyond the Pines, The Sapphires and Oliver & Company are all on their way from Amazon. When my order shipped, Pines was $24.79, so it's nice to see that they've matched Best Buy and I'll get a refund on that. $22.99 is a bit steep in my opinion -- I was hoping a store would get it down to $19.99 -- but I loved the film so much I'll pay that anyway.

Because Mud is so exceptional, I am buying it on both formats in order to be able to loan the DVD version to friends, none of whom have Blu-ray capability. I loan out the DVDs in combo pack releases all the time, and was hoping Mud would be a combo for that reason, but no such luck. The low price point helps though.

I'd also like to mention how good THE SAPPHIRES is because it was given an extremely limited theatrical run and isn't getting a ton of coverage on Blu either that I have seen so far. But it's a really fun movie with great music and an exceptional cast, and I hope it finds a larger audience now that it's available. It's absolutely worth renting if you have any interest in its genre at all.

I want Robin Hood and Sword in the Stone as well, but had to draw the line somewhere, and those prices are just too much. It is clear that the inclusion of digital copies on these two titles has increased their cost vs. Oliver, which does not contain a digital copy. These non-event catalog releases are already expensive enough for what amounts to a purely presentation quality upgrade, since there's no new extras. I don't use the digital copies and, as much as I want to have these films, I'm not going to pay $25. Cut the price, Disney, and then we'll talk. Incidentally, who eally wants digital copies with these titles? Anyone? I have to think that excluding it from Oliver is a test to see if we will pay more with the digital included, and I hope that Disney gets the message not to do this again.

I am also interested in Oblivion, which I wanted to see in theaters but missed, but I'll rent it in lieu of a blind purchase because of all the other stuff this week.

I'll pick up Swamp Thing this week. I'll get Community: Season Four when the price comes down to reality ($20 is tough for 13 mostly lackluster episodes and even if the show had been amazing, Best Buy is living in a fantasy world with a nearly $30 price tag for that few episodes).

I've never used one and have no plans to but since many studios have been including them for years now, I have to imagine that people do use them or it would be gone by now.

Fox had been nice in getting me review copies days before their release date for the past few weeks, but no such luck this week, so I hope there will be reviews of Cavalcade, October Baby, and The Pagemaster upcoming. The review copy for Mud should be here tomorrow. There was a mix-up, and my name got left off the review copy list.
