[rant]I do not like them here, or there. I do not like them anywhere![/rant]
[c] [/c]
Standard disclaimer: All prices are taken from the websites of each chain, the week of the release (so as to catch any week-of-release sale prices). All prices are subject to change by each chain. Prices and inventory in-store may or may not match the website price. If a price is marked "$_N/A_" in the grid, it means that this title is not shown as available on that chain's website...but it COULD still be in-stores!
I only include the titles I feel like including. In fact, the titles are pretty much the ones I'm personally interested in, with few exceptions. I don't get paid for this, and I don't have time to devote to doing every DVD. I have a lovely wife and a four-year-old son I'd rather spend time with. Please don't complain. If there is a title not included in the Roundup that you want to see, just look it up yourself, and be nice enough to post and share the results with everyone...like I do!
Note that Circuit City does not guarantee their sale prices in Hawaii.

* [rant]OAR Mix-up Alert! Showtime is available this week, in both Wide- and Full-Screen separate versions. Be on the lookout for the RED Widescreen banner. Be careful in stores. Especially in Sam's Club, where their online system SAYS "Widescreen", but the Fullscreen box is depicted. :frowning: [/rant]
* There are a large number of Disney/Buena Vista titles released this week. Keep in mind that some of them aren't listed here due to space limitations. Others aren't listed because they are not presented in the Original Theatrical Presentation format of Widescreen. One of my favorite 80's films, Can't Buy Me Love, is sadly among those. :spit: So, if you are getting anything on the above Roundup list, it should be OAR. If you look into something not listed, then let the buyer beware!
* Don't forget that the catalog titles released this Tuesday probably won't be in-stores on Tuesday, unless they are in that particular chain's sales flyers. For instance, Best Buy's ad shows Cocktail and Stakeout, so expect those in BB's in quantity. But titles like Return of the Vampire and perhaps Wolfen and Big Business won't probably hit for another few days, or even a week. Be patient!
* This week I have again included Borders pricing, due to the high number of catalog titles. Perhaps they'll even have some of them in during the first few days of release! Nah, never happen. But in case it does, don't forget that there is a printable Link Removed good there through August 24th!
* Best Buy will take $5 off instantly if you buy both Birthday Girl and In The Bedroom at the same time. An odd combo, to be sure.
* For the 5 or 6 of you who want LotR and didn't buy it already, you can buy it at BB for $19.99, and if you buy any other Sci-Fi DVD at the same time for at least $9.99, BB will mail you a handsome LotR-themed $5 Gift Card.
* CompUSA will have In The Bedroom for $17.99. And, they are giving away LotR (WS or FS) with the purchase of any advertised DVD player (starts at $59.99 after mail-in rebate). Also, for anyone who missed The Simpsons - Season 2 last week, they will have it for just $29.99!
* Target shows Showtime for $15.99, In the Bedroom and The New Guy for $19.99 each, and Jonathan Frake's Clockstoppers for a "Low Price". They are also pushing LotR for $17.99, but in a curious way: the ad shows the Fullscreen version, and notes that the "Widescreen DVD and movie soundtrack also available". I wonder if that means the WS edition is the same price or not? Hmmm...
* K-Mart's ad shows the two Olsen Twin televisions series DVDs, So Little Time (both "School's Cool" and "Boy Crazy") for just $14.95. That's right next to the $19.95 LotR picture. :rolleyes:Also for $19.95 are the new releases In The Bedroom, The New Guy, & Showtime.
* Wal-Mart's latest ad circular seems to skip movies entirely, so there. :p)

did i read somewere that jay and silent bob is $11.99 this WEAK at best buy?

also it looks like a slow weak for me as only j and bob if that price + coupon and maybe down and out in beverly hills , if in stock.

edit:
i just remembered that curse/night of the demon is also out this week.
When psychologist John (Dana Andrews) Holden's colleague, Professor Harrington, is mysteriously and brutally murdered, Holden denies that it's the work of the devil… until he becomes the next target of the Curse Of The Demon!

A cult classic, Curse Of The Demon is restored and released for the first time in the US at its full original length. Plus, catch the rare truncated American release back to back.

A British production, Night Of The Demon was released in the UK in a 95 minute running time. For the American market, the film was cut to 82 minutes, re-titled Curse Of The Demon, and released in 1958. This DVD presents, for the first time in the US, the fully restored 95 minute version as seen by British audiences in 1957, as well as the rare, truncated American release.

Tony, it IS a weak week, isn't it? Compared to last week, it's letdown, quality-wise. The Dr. Seuss titles for me boyo, and possible Showtime and Clockstoppers for me (both with Star Trek connections, and perhaps entertaining enough for the loss leader prices).

Other than that, Cocktail and a belated Wolfen, when I get around to it. Maybe the Stakeout pair; they were all right.

CompUSA'a Simpson price saved a very weak week for me. I was going to pick it up at Costco this week but can save a few more $'s at Comp.

My only planned purchase for this week was Can't Buy Me Love. Looks like I'll be saving a little money in preparation for next week.

A poster in the Software forum stated that Can't Buy Me Love is open-matte, rather than Pan & Scan, so take that for what it's worth. He said that on a widescreen TV it did not look bad cropped to Theater Wide. I do own a few open-matte DVDs and while not ideal, I find them less offensive than a cropped film.
It's only $11.99 at Best Buy, and one of my most-wanted 80's films, so I might just have to break down and get it to upgrade my non-widescreen laserdisc. It might be worth it to not have to switch sides and have one less use for my laserdisc player (I think I'm down to only about 25 films not yet available on DVD).
I was going to pass on In the Bedroom because the disc is featureless. However, I did like the film a lot and the $16.99 price at CC is tempting. I'm not too eager to see it again right now, but it might be worth to buy it to have and I wanted my mom to see it. (I loan her my DVDs so she can see good movies.)

Thanks for the weekly round-ups, David.

This is a good week - Night/Curse of the Demon and Revenge of Frankenstein. I already picked mine up at my favorite street-date-breaking big box retailer and they are beautiful - thank you, Columbia, for the 1.66 anamorphic transfers!

Eliza Dushku alert....
She's in "THE NEW GUY" and she alone is worth the $15.99 sale price at BEST BUY this week...at least to me she is :)
I picked this one up already (I'm overseas right now) and the movie is somewhat funny also. :)

Thanks for bringing that up for the other viewers, but here are my thoughts about that:

It's modified from the theatrical presentation, period. That's my only answer here. Disney: NO OAR = NO SALE.

Thanks as usual for the hard work Dave. I actually like this week, it allows me to buy some old titles on my list and save money towards my next new title Aug 20 (Hopscotch yay!).

Is there going to be a widescreen version released or are we going to have to start another petition ;)
I really want this movie but no widescreen is really making it a major downer.

Just find the two minute video clip from the website where she's in the different bikinis. I will admit I found myself chuckling at the film's first half (I don't know why), but the second half was just plain awful.
This week is a pretty crappy week, but next week is going to be one of the biggest DVD weeks for me since January.
Can we say...
- Gremlins: Special Edition
- Gremlins 2 - The New Batch: Special Edition
- Jackie Brown: Special Edition
- National Lampoon's Van Wilder (Unrated Two Disc Set)
- Pulp Fiction: Special Edition
... just to name a few? :D

Thanks for the round-up for this week Dave. :)
The most I'll indulge in is Cocktail. A nice, light week!

Ed, please please PLEASE tell me more! What other deals did they have? Any deals on older releases or just new releases? Please inform me, I'm a bargain hunter, and there aren't any mom & pop stores or independent stores that have great deals. Do you know of any? Thanks. (I live in Old Bridge by the way.)

Sure these "flea market" copies weren't bootlegs? Flea markets are the home of bootleg copies of DVDs, usually inferior quality stuff. Let the buyer beware!

But, if you got a legit item at a great price, then kudos to ya!

Beaches and Big Business yay!!!

For anyone that needs catalog stuff on tuesday, if you have a Tower Records in your area, they have never failed to have things available.

I broke down and got Time After Time there for 14.99 when the borders say they had it in the back but couldnt open the box without the manager assigning them to do it,

grrr

Big Business is one of my biggest comedy/guilty pleasure faves, ive seen it more times than i can remember on video and to see it in WS for the first time will be great.

Beaches i saw for the first time two weeks after my dad died when i am 9, so yeah its a chick flick, but im a total sucker for it (that and My Life with Michael Keaton)

Oddly enough i just watched my tapes of both stakeouts last week, really good flicks

And Coctail, terrble movie, but it does have young tom cruise.....

Jackie Brown >drool< finally Tarantino made a GOOD movie =)

For the first time in what seems like forever I will actually be purchasing more CDs that DVDs this week!

Will be picking up Showtime regardless of the word of mouth it's been getting. Why? Bill, of course. [Shatner]

Will also be picking up: Nickel Creek and James Taylor's new CDs, available Tuesday for $11.99 each at Best Buy (with an additional SE of JT's, comes with a bonus disc, for $2 more).

Whoa, SE DVDs, then SE CDs, what next?
