The Disclaimer
Standard disclaimer: All prices are taken from the websites of each chain, or from their printed advertisements, the Sunday of the week of release (so as to catch any week-of-release sale prices). All prices are subject to change by each chain. Prices and inventory in-store may or may not match the website price. If a price is marked "$_N/A_" in the grid, it means that this title is not shown as available on that chain's website or perhaps in their ads...but it COULD still be in-stores!

$_"LP" means the advertisement says "Low Price", and $_"HP" means the advertisement says "Hot Price". Use of either of these in the Roundup grid indicates that I could not locate a definite price for the item, and the ad is all I have to go on. Retailers use these phrases in advertisements so that they do not violate MAP (Minimum Advertised Price) agreements with the studios. Doing so can cost them thousands or even millions of dollars in co-op advertising funds.

I only include the titles I feel like including (or the ones Dave tells me he's looking for ;o)). In fact, the titles are pretty much the ones I'm personally interested in, with few exceptions. I don't get paid for this, and I don't have time to devote to doing every DVD. So, please don't complain. If there is a title not included in the Roundup that you want to see, just look it up yourself, and be nice enough to post and share the results with everyone...like Dave & I do!

Note that Circuit City does not guarantee their sale prices in Hawaii. Also note that I cannot include Wal-Mart/Sam’s Club prices in the standard Roundup: they set prices at individual stores based on nearby competition, so there is not a way I can say here what price you'll find at YOUR local Wal-Mart/Sam’s Club location. When it comes to Wal-Mart/Sam’s Club prices mentioned at all, just remember that "Your Mileage May Vary".

The Specials

**BE EXTREMELY CAREFUL! Million Dollar Baby (2-disc) is available in both OAR and MAR versions...get the correct one! Also, I have left Paranoid (2000 starring Jessica Alba) off the RoundUp altogether because all sources point to it being an MAR release only.

--Well, things pick up somewhat this week. A little something for everyone: A Best Picture winner, Rex Harrison, Wes Craven, Fran Drescher, George Hamilton, Mickey Mouse, an Italian classic from Criterion, Classic TV, some not-so-classic TV…..even Garbage Pail Kids!

--Best Buy is advertising the latest in a line of EXCLUSIVE DVD products: 13 episodes of the TV series The Oblongs for $29.99. See Buffy/Vampire Slayer: Spike & Best of Welcome Back Kotter in recent RoundUps. Apparently, this title is not available in any other store. Featured on Adult Swim, this animated series is based on the book Creepy Susie and 13 Other Tragic tales for Troubled Children by Angus oblong. Stars Will Ferrell as the voice of Bob Oblong, the head of a dysfunctional family deformed by toxic waste.

--Best Buy is also offering price breaks again for members of its Reward Zone program. Reward Zoners can get the following discounts off the prices listed in the above table:

[c]$5

Hercules: the Legendary Journeys: Season 6
Sealab 2021: Season 3
The Nanny: Season 1

$3

Tales from the Crypt: Season 1

$2

The Best of He-Man & Masters of the Universe[/c]

--Best Buy is advertising free movie tickets to see Stealth in Double Packs such as SWAT/Black Hawk Down and In the Line of Fire/Air Force One. Included on-pack with purchase of either of these DVD 2-packs. Up to $7.50 value. Minimum 12 per store. No rainchecks.

--Best Buy is also advertising an EXCLUSIVE Preview Disc of Stealth…instantly, when you visit our entertainment department. Directed by Rob Cohen (xXx, The Fast and the Furious) and starring Sam Shepard, Josh Lucas, Jamie Foxx and Jessica Biel. In theaters July 29. Preview disc includes exclusive behind-the-scenes look at Stealth and upcoming movie trailers. In store only.

--Not to be outdone, Circuit City has got its own EXCLUSIVE sneak peek DVD for The Wedding Crashers. With purchase of any DVD movie, receive a free DVD with 29-minutes of content including a behind-the-scenes special preview of Wedding Crashers starring Owen Wilson and Vince Vaughn, in theaters everywhere July 15, 2005. While supplies last. Minimum 96 per store.

--K-Mart is advertising a price of $15.99 on Million Dollar Baby and $19.99 on Dodgeball (NR).

The Appeal

Do you like the Weekly RoundUp? …and you probably like talking with other HT enthusiasts about your hobby and the latest new releases? PLEASE HELP SUPPORT THE HOME THEATER FORUM!!!

Operating the HTF is not free for Parker and Ron. That is why there is advertising throughout the forum and there has been the occasional membership fund drive. THERE IS AN EASY WAY FOR YOU TO HELP…AND IT’S FREE OF CHARGE!

If you would simply link to the Portal Page when you start your visits to the HTF, that act alone would bring revenue to the forum. While it would also be nice if you wanted to click on some of the advertisers’ links and check out their deals and sales (that form of “window shopping” would bring even more revenue to the forum), the simple act of landing on the Portal Page registers a “hit” or “impression” that creates revenue for the HTF.

So, if you’ve been “sneaking in” to the HTF through links to your favorite thread or forum, please help out by taking an extra second of your time and landing first on the HTF Portal Page. THANKS!

Thanks Mike & Patrick! Finally a week with some titles worth picking up. Million Dollar Baby, A Very Long Engagement, & Sealab 2021 S3. Might even grab Bad News Bears at ~$8.

Does anyone know off the top of their heads if the Vintage Mickey discs contains any toons that haven't been released in the Treasures sets?

What's that supposed to mean, Mike? Your personal commentary on people buying the Garbage Pail Kids DVD? Is that the "garbage" title of the week IYO (pun intended, of course).

Having said that, just Freaked and Garbage Pail Kids for me this week. :)

Absolutely nothing this week or next. But July 26th is looking to be a major hit on my wallet with 8 dvds (including 5 multi-disc sets).

Now, Scott...you know better than that ;)

We embrace diversity here at the HTF! After all, one man's Cary Grant is another man's Gabby Hayes. :D

Is the Close Encounters a 2 disk S.E or single S.E.?

Mike, again thank you for your hard work.

No one is picking up He-Man? Or at least no one is admitting to it? I will be at BB to get He-Man Tuesday morning and I will promptly watch everything on both discs before I go to bed Tuesday night.

And at $12.99 for 10 episodes and extras?? How can you not?

If you could find a CC that had the 2-disc, you'd have a fighting chance.

But the 2-disc came out first and has been replaced almost everywhere by the movie-only release.

Only place that still has the 2-disc is Coconuts/FYE, and they charge more for it.

I'm guessing that 'Legend' is also the 1-disc.

Looks to be a day for Hercules fans. Hercules TLJ S6 and the Lou Ferrigno Hercules movies and Sinbad movie. With Masters o/t Universe Best Of set, that's alot of muscle adventure. Also picking up Hunter S2 and Dracula III: Legacy. Is it just me or does Dracula seem a little high priced?

Thanks Mike and Patrick as always.

I'm picking up Million Dollar Baby (2-disc) for myself and making sure my sister knows about Cry Baby ($13.99 at DeepDiscountDVD) as she has been waiting several years for this to be released on DVD.

I'll also be getting Violent Femmes - Permanent Record: Live & Otherwise ($13.30 at DeepDiscountDVD, $13.99 at Amazon.com $16.99 at Best Buy, and $17.99 at Circuit City).

Erm...Jason. I LOVE your enthusiasm...but I guess I just have to admit I never caught the He-Man wave and rode it. :D

Its on my maybe list, but what doesn't help its cause is the fact that there are supposed to be season collections coming very soon.

Sealab 2021 for me definitely. Maybe He-Man if I can find it in my area.

Thanks for the great job as usual Mike. Nothing new for me this week. I may pick up some of the Warner rebate items at Costco if they put out anything I don't have.

Yeah, nine times out of ten that would stop me from picking this up too, but at such a low price, I think a little splurging is acceptable.
