The Disclaimer Standard disclaimer: All prices are taken from the websites of each chain, or from their printed Sunday advertisements. All prices are subject to change by each chain. Prices and inventory in-store may or may not match the website price.

"LP" in the RoundUp table means a store’s Sunday flyer says "Low Price". That means I could not locate a definite price for the item, and the ad is all I have to go on. Retailers use these phrases in advertisements so that they do not violate MAP (Minimum Advertised Price) agreements with the studios. Doing so can cost them thousands or even millions of dollars in co-op advertising funds.

I, obviously, cannot include EVERY title released in a given week in the RoundUp. The titles included are those that I am interested in...as well as those which I consider will be of interest to a majority of consumers (and sometimes I’ll miss one!). I don't get paid for this, and I don't have the time to list every DVD. So, please don't complain! If there is a title not included in the RoundUp that you want to see, just look it up yourself, and be nice enough to post and share the results with everyone!

Note that I cannot include Wal-Mart/Sam’s Club prices in the RoundUp. They set prices at individual stores based on nearby competition, so there is no way I can say here what price you'll find at YOUR local Wal-Mart/Sam’s Club location. And, as always, Circuit City does not guarantee their sale prices in Hawaii.

The Specials

SPECIAL ROUNDUP NOTICE! In an effort to improve the RoundUp, I have added yet another retailer to the list this week: Sears.com This is the beginning of a trial run for Sears in the RoundUp. Obviously, the addition is extra work for me to compile the prices. And, I am not yet sure how the Sears on-line prices will translate in-store. I read an article recently about how Sears was expanding its on-line catalog and thought I would give it a try. I’ve got to tell you that, at first blush, the Sears prices look pretty darn competitive. I will also try to get to my local Sears store and see what the in-store displays/inventory looks like. If you have ANY feedback on this addition—or, if you have been known to frequent your local Sears store for DVDs—please share your observations here! :D

One other random observation: Circuit City’s DVD prices seem to be improving each week. Thoughts?

**Woohoo! Yet another week where there are NO new titles released in a modified aspect ratio!

--All retailers list the HD-DVD of P.S. I Love You for this week…except amazon which has it listed for May 27. The majority won and I included it in the grid.

--Start preparing for an onslaught of promotion for the release of the Sex and the City theatrical movie. It starts in the RoundUp, this week, with this Best Buy promotion. Purchase ANY season set of Sex and the City, or the SD-DVD of The Notebook, and get FREE MOVIE MONEY for Sex and the City theatrical movie. Movie money = $10.50. Valid 5-30-08 thru 6-29-08. Movie in theaters 5-30-08. Minimum 2 of each title per store.

--Best Buy has a Buy One, Get One Free sale on a limited selection of $9.99 titles. Titles are available on-line at bestbuy.com.

--Best Buy Odds and Ends: Best Buy has advertised Rome: Seasons 1 & 2 and Deadwood: Seasons 1, 2 & 3 at $54.99 apiece.

--If anyone is wondering why I am ignoring this new advertising ploy of Circuit City’s to have a “Circuit City Premiere Price”…it is because it is stupid. They are advertising it as a “LOW PRICE” that is in effect “five days only” from Tuesday thru Saturday. Well, “d’uh”, that’s what every retailer does when they issue a “release week” price. The price doesn’t take effect until the title is released on Tuesday and the bargain price ends on Saturday when all flyer prices end. Dumb.

--Circuit City Odds and Ends: Lists of DVDs for $4.99, $5.99 and $8.99.

--Target is advertising an EXCLUSIVE DVD RELEASE of Speed Racer’s Wonderful World of Racing ($9.99) that includes MOVIE CASH to see the Speed Racer movie in theaters. Quantities limited. No rainchecks. This is separate from this week’s release of Speed Racer – Next Generation: New Beginnings.

--Target Odds and Ends: Target has DVDs on sale for $6.49 and $9.99.

I thiink I am in for Twister on Blu-ray. Are all the features on the two disc set on the Blu-ray? And I am intrigued by Teeth...although I'll probably have my legs crossed while watching it!

Mike, is the 4400 release for Season 4, not 1?

--John

P.S. Great Twister photo!

A couple of rentals this week for me: Teeth, based on some relatively positive reviews (and an interesting horror movie concept!)and The Car, a CHEESY cult horror movie that I got hooked on when HBO played it to death in those early years of cable!

I checked on pricing for The Car and Amazon, Bestbuy.com and Circuitcity.com all list it at $14.99. Not sure if the B&M stores will have it in stock though...

The French Film "La Roue" is considered a classic and is being released Tuesday. Check out Robert Harris comments at Yellow Layer Failure, Vinegar Syndrome and Miscellaneous Musings by Robert A. Harris. He speaks very highly of this film. So far, I only have seen it available at Amazon.com and Movies Unlimited for $39.99. It is not listed at Best Buy, Circuit City, deepdiscount or Sears. Has anyone seen it listed anywhere else?

A bunch of coworkers and I are throwing a watching party on Tuesday for Teeth after having read about it in the paper last year. Its become a pretty popular inside joke around here and I can't wait to see it.

Also will give Helvetica a rent as it looks to be pretty interesting.

Wow, that is surprising about some of those Sears prices! Who'd a thunk it? Anyhoo, I'll probably be picking up a Blu of Twister.

Teeth is, in fact, really good, and I may wind up picking that up myself, along with Azumi 2 on DVD (not as good as the first, but good enough that I wish there were a third episode in the works) and Helvetica on Blu-ray.

I may have to stop off at Sears for Twister BD and then smuggle it into the house so the BF doesn't see it. I've been on a tear lately with movies and the last thing I need is for him to see yet another new movie. :D

I'll be picking up Mystery Science Theater 3000: The Movie and Serial Mom. Having re-watched both discs recently, I have to say they were definitely in need of an anamorphic upgrade.

I love The Car but the Anchor Bay disc still suits me fine.

I just figured out your intent (and fixed the typo). :D Sometimes you've got to hit me over the head.

I thought you were making fun of Tabitha's lisp or something...

I'll check it out as well. It did pretty much absolutely nothing in the theaters but god help me, I'm a sucker for anything to do with vaginas.

i watched Teeth last week.

pretty good.
i would call it dark comedy or mye satire.
worth a rental at least.

Jesse Weixler makes it worth it.
i expect for her to be appearing in the tribute to blonds thread.
