Individual titles included in box sets listed above:

American Pie Presents: Threesome Collection: American Pie Presents: Band Camp, American Pie Presents: Beta House, American Pie Presents: Naked Mile.

The Disclaimer Standard disclaimer: All prices are taken from the websites of each chain, or from their printed Sunday advertisements. All prices are subject to change by each chain. Prices and inventory in-store may or may not match the website price.

"LP" in the RoundUp table means a store’s Sunday flyer says "Low Price". That means I could not locate a definite price for the item, and the ad is all I have to go on. Retailers use these phrases in advertisements so that they do not violate MAP (Minimum Advertised Price) agreements with the studios. Doing so can cost them thousands or even millions of dollars in co-op advertising funds.

I, obviously, cannot include EVERY title released in a given week in the RoundUp. The titles included are those that I am interested in...as well as those which I consider will be of interest to a majority of consumers (and sometimes I’ll miss one!). I don't get paid for this, and I don't have the time to list every DVD. So, please don't complain! If there is a title not included in the RoundUp that you want to see, just look it up yourself, and be nice enough to post and share the results with everyone!

Note that I cannot include Wal-Mart/Sam’s Club prices in the RoundUp. They set prices at individual stores based on nearby competition, so there is no way I can say here what price you'll find at YOUR local Wal-Mart/Sam’s Club location. And, as always, Circuit City does not guarantee their sale prices in Hawaii.

The Specials

**BE EXTREMELY CAREFUL! American Pie Presents: Beta House AND Eastern Promises are available in both OAR and MAR versions...get the right one!

As is their want, the folks who bring us the delightful American Pie movies are presenting us with a rather complicated landscape. Beta House is being released in an OAR unrated version, an MAR rated version, and an MAR unrated version.

Also, even though I had included Rush Hour 3 in last week’s RoundUp, it’s back again this week, since the stores have a number of promotions on the title.

Best Buy’s flyer says their DVD prices in this flyer will become effective December 26 (but I suspect catalog titles will be effective December 23. Circuit City’s flyer says new releases will be available 12-26-07 (which makes sense seeing as how their stores will be closed 12-25!), and Target says ALL the sales prices in their flyer (not just DVD prices) will take effect December 26.

Heroes season 1 at Target for me... I may check Sunday just in case the "Dec 26" prices start earlier for older titles. If anyone else checks too, please report back. Thanks.

Just a heads up, all. I was in BB this morning with Face-Off, Stardust and Batman Begins for the Buy 2, Get 1 promo. I was denied. The Media Supervisor told me there was a specific list of movies on BestBuy.com from which to choose. I didn't bother to look.

There is in-store signage which indicates Stardust, Harry Potter, Blue Planet, Next, Bourne and possibly one or two more titles. The ad shows Transformers on the page, but no Next. I went around with the Manager on Duty and the Media Sup for 20 minutes about this. Neither would budge despite the ad clearly only excluding box sets and TV shows. (Upon looking at the list, though, all three of the movies I had in my hand were indeed included in the sale...)

I assume this is the list. The most curious thing is that the briefcase and "regular" HD versions of Blade Runner are included. I would have pegged both of them as box sets.

I did a double take yesterday at Tukwilla WA Costco. They had Eastern Promises out. Didn't want to miss the Christmas Shoppers I guess.

Happy holidays, Mike, Patrick and all other Round-Uppers!
I'll probably pick up the Eastern Promises and Pan's Labyrinth HD DVDs eventually, likely not this week, though.

Also, another head's up. The sale is limited to one offer per order (online, at least). I put 6 discs in my cart, but only 1 was listed as free, then I noticed the limit 1 disclaimer. You may have to break up into multiple orders in-store, as well.

Still deciding if I should pull the trigger. After tax, the $24.99 titles average out to $17.82 each. Not much of a savings over Amazon, so I'm thinking they can probably be had cheaper soon.

Here's the scoop on Target's ad:
The ad prices Mike listed do go into effect on Wed. Dec. 26th. I checked out Heroes S1 this morning and it scanned at $49.99. If there are titles that you are interested in, I would recommend picking them up today or tomorrow and getting the price adjustment during the sale period (Wed thru Sat).
So, Mike, do you have a new "source" now? Target.com only listed the clearance ad and stated that the online ad would be available on 12/25....

Also, a very Merry Christmas to Mike, Patrick and all the other HTF-ers here!

The Best Buy HD-DVD promotion should be for every title under $35 in store, online it is only a specific list. I picked up Stardust, The Kingdom, and Pan's Labyrinth for $66 and change out the door. Oh, and the HD-DVD of Pan's Labyrinth is $32.99 at Best Buy this week, same as the Blu-ray version (both are featured together in the ad).

Nothing new for here this week, but a goodie from the past (Firefly) for a family member who loves it.

Thank you, Mike, Patrick and all who contribute - happy holidays and enjoy!

Okay, my last word on this morning at Best Buy:

I ordered Stardust, Batman Begins and V for Vendetta online. Came up B2GO. Went to the store. All the signage had been removed. Picked up Blade Runner, Phantom of the Opera and Jarhead. Rang up as B2GO.

The Media Sup I had talked to earlier was gone, but I did chat with the store manager for a minute. Someone changed their system between 8:30 and 1:15 ish.

Grabbing Waitress on Wednesday morning before work and that's it.

Thanks everyone-especially Mike and Patrick. A very merry non-demoninational winter holiday to all. :D

So it seems like this BB HD-DVD B2G1 sale is working itself out?

I'd be pretty ticked off if I got to the store this morning with ad in hand and they wouldn't honor what is a reasonable (not one of those obvious mis-print) deal.

I always have a hard time when a store manager tells me "well, the 'system' isn't letting me put it through." They are called "over-rides." Honor the ad, make the customer happy and if you think there's a problem you'd better put some signage up quick that says 'Sorry for the inconvenience but there was a mis-print in our flyer." Easy as that.

Eric: I'll tell ya...I'm flying by the seat of my pants these days--for all three retailers listed in the RoundUp. In the past, for a fail-safe, I have been able to count on my local newspaper to distribute the "Sunday" flyers in an early-bird Saturday edition at newsstands. They are no longer dependable about doing that...even though they up-charge for the Saturday edition with the promise of delivering the Sunday paper's supplements.

I'm thinking of renting The Kingdom and I'm wondering if it’s any good. There are certainly a lot of recognizable faces. Would anyone recommend this film?

I hope everyone here will have a wonderful holiday.

Chris, you have to take my movie recommendations with a grain of salt, because I'm pretty easy to please... but I would say The Kingdom is a definite buy if you enjoy action movies.

My wife and I saw it at a preview screening here in LA with the director Peter Berg present. It was pretty close to a final cut as far as I could tell and was very well received by the audience. If it means anything, my wife loved it too! :)

Just a reminder that I was surprised to see no one mention here... Universal Studios bumped up the release date on their titles to today, 12/23. So The Kingdom, the American Pie Presents movies, Eastern Promises, Intimate Affairs, and Galatica 1980 are all available today instead of Wednesday. I know Best Buy has them available now, and I imagine the other retailers do, as well.
