The Disclaimer

Standard disclaimer: All prices are taken from the websites of each chain, or from their printed Sunday advertisements. All prices are subject to change by each chain. Prices and inventory in-store may or may not match the website price.

I, obviously, cannot include EVERY title released in a given week in the RoundUp. The titles included are those that I am interested in...as well as those which I consider will be of interest to a majority of consumers (and sometimes I’ll miss one!). I don't get paid for this, and I don't have the time to list every DVD. So, please don't complain! If there is a title not included in the RoundUp that you want to see, PLEASE just look it up yourself, and be nice enough to post and share the results with everyone!

Note that I cannot include Wal-Mart/Sam’s Club prices in the RoundUp. They set prices at individual stores based on nearby competition, so there is no way I can say here what price you'll find at YOUR local Wal-Mart/Sam’s Club location. And, Circuit City is still out of business...even in Hawaii (where they NEVER guaranteed their prices anyway).

Those are pretty impressive prices for the complete runs of Bewitched and Jeannie.

Supposed to be getting Jumper 3D, The Heat, Shrek the Musical, and Vikings: Season One for review this week, but nothing has yet arrived.

The "week 1" pricing on new release Blu-rays has gotten worse and worse. If it wasn't for the sporadic (YMMV) Walmart flyer, hardly any major new release gets an advertised sale price below $20 these days. It appears some brick & mortar retailers (Best Buy in particular) have given up on volume sales and gone to a margin-based formula. Even Best Buy's store exclusives don't resonate with me these days, since most of the bonus content they provide is tied to their cloud-based, CinemaNow service. In general, Target stills offers decent "store exclusive" editions, but it's always a challenge to get there early enough on release day to nab one of the 3-4 copies they usually get in stock. Personally, IMO, below $20 is the sweet spot for a Blu-ray combo-pack, new release, blind buy. I find that rarely happens for me anymore. I have close to 700 Blu-ray's, but these days, nearly all of my purchases now come from Amazon Prime.

I don't think that HBO sale at BB is all that good, honestly. I'll wait for Black Friday and the end of the year for a better sale to get all the back seasons I don't have. Otherwise, nothing for me.

I'm definitely getting In The Mouth Of Madness and Star Wars: The Clone Wars- Season Five this week and maybe The Haunting. Weird Science I may grab on sale at some point.

Thanks for the prices, Mike! :)

EDIT: Pacific Rim is well worth a rental for those looking for a quality big budget movie.

Will pick up Pacific Rim 3D at some point but I learned my lesson from The Great Gatsby and will wait a couple weeks until it goes on sale for under $20. Otherwise, will get The Untold History of the United States and that $9.99 price for Love, Actually sounds tempting.

Weird Science is John Hughes favorite. Will pick it up if the BD reviews are good.

It does seem that release-week deals are getting lamer, but titles are moving into the cheap catalog category faster. The under-$10 racks at Target include a lot of fairly recent stuff.

I had been waiting until the end of the Clone Wars to see if they were going to do a complete set. I was excited about this set until I heard over the weekend that now they are going to release some new episodes. They haven't said how many but I'm now wondering if there would be a more complete set down the road. Unless these new ones will be owned by Disney and wouldn't be able to be included in future sets?

The brick-and-mortar video rental business continues to dwindle away in my neck of the woods.

I was greeted with this sight the other day.

Now I haven't rented anything in a very long time. But, I still would stop by this last Blockbuster store on a regular basis to check out the "previously viewed" stuff. No more.

AND--to rub salt in the wound--even at those prices there was nothing I wanted when I stopped in!

I found the same thing when our local Blockbuster closed back in April. I think I stopped in once after the sale began, saw the ridiculous prices they wanted for "used" product, and didn't bother to stop again.

Warners is just the distributor of the show and Disney owns it so I think they will release their own set some day. That being said, I'd have to imagine that the S6/unseen episodes will get a release outside of a box set but I also never imagined that they'd be stupid enough to not run all the episodes on TV so what do I know? :)

Yeah, our Blockbusters closed a while back. I had a mail order plan with in-store exchanges and it was good. After the stores closed, keeping it just for the mail order was pointless.

On another note, has anyone gotten or seen the collector's edition of Pacific Rim? If so, is it any good or is it a piece of junk?

Route 9 in Latham (near Latham Farms).

I believe there is still a Blockbuster in Wynantskill...but I rarely get out that way.

All the Mom & Pop video stores are gone. All the Movie Gallery stores are gone. All the Hollywood Video stores are gone. All the Blockbusters are gone. Just the Red Box machines are left.

Are you a Capital District guy, David?
