Could the be going to accomplish this via their new triple features? The titles that excited me of the batch coming out on 11/7 were the classic titles (Randolph Scott, John Wayne, etc.).

Bring it on WB! ;)

My number one most wanted film, like always is The Devils.

If Warner does release this on DVD next year, then the other 199 films are icing on the cake. Seeing how Warner is releasing Performance in February, my hopes have lifted a little.

I second Ken's hope for Up the Down Staircase

Some others on the top of my list are:

Brewster McCloud
Heart is a Lonely Hunter, The
Magnificent Ambersons, The
Picture of Dorian Grey, The
Prince of the City
Straight Time

Being a Dark Shadows fan, on top of my list are House of Dark Shadows, and a fully-restored 129-minute pre-release version of Night of Dark Shadows, which would reflect the wishes of the film's late director/producer Dan Curtis, who was very upset when MGM forced him to take out roughly 30 minutes of material out. The picture & sound elements are there, and in the past few years there's been a major clamor to get the second DS film restored. Let's hope that they will listen to the fans and more importantly, respect the director's wishes.

Aside from that, I'm praying for a Natalie Wood set- long overdue!

Let's see what can be speculated from anniversaries...

85th anniversary (1922):

- The Prisoner of Zenda (I wonder if a triple feature with the 1922/1937/1952 versions would be possible)

80th anniversary (1927):

- The Jazz Singer
- The Student Prince (Ramon Navarro)
- Love (John Gilbert/Greta Garbo)
-

75th anniversary (1932):

- ???

70th anniversary (1937):

- A Star is Born (Janet Gaynor/Fredric March)

65th (1942):

- The Magnificent Ambersons
- Gentleman Jim (Errol Flynn)

60th (1947):

- Life with Father (William Powell/Technicolor)
- The Sin of Harold Diddlebock (Not sure if it's part of the RKO library)

55th (1952):

- The Prisoner of Zenda

50th (1957):

- Jailhouse Rock
- Raintree County

45th (1962):

- Lolita
- The Music Man
- How the West Was Won
- Billy Budd
- The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse (Glenn Ford - maybe a good 2-disc set with the '21 Valentino version)

40th (1967):

- Bonnie and Clyde
- Cool Hand Luke
- Camelot

35th (1972):

- Deliverance
- Cabaret
- Jeremiah Johnson
- The Candidate

Does anybody have any idea how this total compares to the 2006 total? I'm guessing that we got more than 200 this year, but it has me really curious.

I just really, really, really want RAINTREE COUNTY. I believe it's supposed to be released in 2007 for its 50th, so we'll see. Hopefully it'll be a nice Special Edition, with the Roadshow and Theatrical versions, "Operation Raintree" featurette, and maybe even a "Making of". Here's hoping!

I just made a quick count, and they easily released 130+ titles this year, so we're most likely looking at an increase next year!! WOOO-HOOOO!

I'm hoping for "Electric Dreams", "Reckless" (The Daryl Hannah movie) and "URGH! A Music War" myself. I had this big list of titles I wanted from Warner...I'll have to look it up.

Sincerely,

John Kilduff...

This looks to be a good year for Warner.

Boxsets from:

Natalie Wood
Jean Harlow
Joan Crawford
Bette Davis
Powell and Loy
Errol Flynn

And perhaps remaining Newman titles such as The Prize (pleeeeease), The Helen Morgan Story, Until They Sail and The Rack.

I'd like to see box sets devoted to:

Barbara Stanwyck

Katharine Hepburn (perhaps a volume drawn entirely from her RKO period! The silver lamme moth costume from Christopher Strong must be digitized!)

John Garfield

Ginger Rogers

Jean Harlow

Norma Shearer

Jimmy Stewart (a volume devoted to his early MGM work)

Film noir 4

The Four Daughters series (including Daughters Courageous)

another Tough Guys volume (one that features newspaper melos like Five Star Final)
a set devoted to Warner "social problem" films of the 1930s (I can't believe that "They Won't
Forget" still hasn't ever been released on home video!)

...and a Lucille Ball set would be kind of cool too!

(all of these are in addition to the ones that are, I believe, confirmed--i.e. Bette Davis 3, Crawford 2, Cagney, Flynn 2, Powell & Loy, Rooney & Garland, Mitchum... I'm ready to get 'em all!!)

STORM WARNING is already on DVD from WHV

BY LOVE POSSESSED, THAT MAN FROM RIO and SOLOMON AND SHEBA are all UA films, so those wouldn't be in WHV's domain as they don't own them. MGM does, and Fox (as MGM's distrib) would likely call the shots on those titles.

I'll make my semi-annual pitch for Little Dorrit.

Also, Olivier's Othello would be welcome, though now that I finally have a multi-region player I guess I could just pick up the R2 of that.

  • Blade Runner: The Uber-Ultimate Collector's Edition
  • Beetlejuice SE w/ remastered transfer, Burton commentary, makeup tests maybe?
  • Little Shop of Horrors SE (Perhaps the theatrical cut on disc 1 with the extended cut on disc 2?)
  • L.A. Confidential SE (confirmed)
  • Lethal Weapon SE's (LW4 is technically the only one with "bonus material", and I'd prefer to have the director's cut footage as a special feature on 1-3...this could be a good one with the first one's 20th anniversary next year)
  • KUBRICK SE's!

The likelihood of this isn't major, but I'd like to see at least a 1-disc SE of Falling Down. I'd also be masochistic enough to buy an anamorphic Tango & Cash.

Well the first major announcement of 2007, the Mitchum Signature Collection, contains three must-haves for me, so the year's already off to a good start.

Now if they'd follow it off with those Kubrick SEs that were supposed to come out in September, a Ginger Rogers collection with Bachelor Mother, a John Garfield collection, and remastered two-disc editions of Rio Bravo and An American in Paris, I'll be ecstatic.
