Umm, I wasn't aware of you having to "buy" my "argument." And what Paradigm are you refering to? I think you've got me confused with someone else. ;)

Sorry, I do not buy this either. There is a difference between not shopping at CC because of their producing Divx and not buying an SVS becasue you do not like people who love their product. With CC, the product (Divx) was bad for the industry. With SVS, the product is good for the industry and any hyperbole by those that purchase their subs should not reflect on the quality of SVS's product or service, which by all accounts is very high quality indeed. Seems there are more axes being ground than meets the eye in this silly statement (JMHO).

So how do you guys deal with someone who says SVS makes good subs, heck, even REALLY good subs but won't buy one. Ya call me "silly" (stupid?). Cool.

I wouldn't buy a Canon Digital SLR because I think the whole
bunch of owners (80%) are blowhards and I don't want to be
associated with blowhards..

But aside from that I did let the actual "image" from the
cameras decide which way I was going to go.. And it wasn't
with a Canon :)

Reese... you made a great point. I think that instead of retoric it is more that folks are excited about their online purchase and want to share. FYI I have enjoyed this thread. I think I have been guilty in the past of congradulating someone on their purchase when its been something close to what I have owned but on the other hand I have never put any one down for choosing something else because I know every ear and preference is different. Think about all the info we have all learned since the advent of forums like this. I have been able to build a very decent HT for pennies on the dollar of what 10 years ago I would have had to hire someone to do.

with all due respect, SVS owners and followers remind me of the seagulls in finding nemo... but except for "mine", they say "SVS rules".

so, as soon as they see their food (someone thinking about what sub to get), they just all chime in ;)

The thread has entered its morphing stage. I beg to make a few observations:

The devotion denotes expectations that are met
Whether they are the best subwoofers around is debatable but are they good and represent an excellent value? Most likely.

P.S I do not own nor have I ever heard an SVS sub...

Or Paradigm, HK, Denon, Rockets etc! Like a moth to a flame they all will come if you post it. So since some like to make all SVS customers look as thought they are the only ones who do this. NEWS FLASH they are not the only ones who are guilty of this behavior. Also not all customers of these brands are over the top.

I wish people would stop lumping every owner into one group do to a few fanatics of popular brands. :)

$5000 is an excellent value!? Compared to what? I wish I lived in your world..........When I think of excellent "value" I think I'm getting something extra that's comparable to the competition and it isn't costing me much additional. Velodyne, has passed on all the costs and then some, which is their right to do so.

Maybe compared to a B4+ with amp and eq that isn't as sophisticated at the Digital Drive for a whopping $3849 + shipping. Depending of course if you need the extra db's that the B4+ gives you. If you do then the DD-18 may not be for you. Oh, by the way, I've found the DD-18 for $2999 online, and even $3999 from authorized retailers. Odds are that you're likely to find it for less than the SVS offering.

WayneO, You should know by now that value has nothing to do with price. It's all very relevant. I find that a lot of products I buy have great value, even at full retail although they may or may not have been purchased at a discount.

And You really shouldn't compare the B4 to the DD-18. They are WAY different animals. As Tom V put it "The B4 is like a blown Big block Chevrolet (70 Chevelle maybe?) where the DD-18 is more like a "insert car here". Both get you to the finish line in a hurry, but they are using vastly different techniques to get there...

It's hilarious seeing people nitpick to death these monster subwoofers that very few people need or will buy--it's like discussing what engine would be best for a 3000lb sports car: a V-8 with 500hp or a V-12 with 525hp. Who cares!!! They will both be boxer-staining fast with more speed capability than any sane person could possibly use.

And put me in the group that is tired of seeing every sub thread getting converted to an "SVS is best" discussion. Subwoofers are simply for making movies more fun to experience--that's it. This and constant discussions about a certain speaker from Canada is why I hardly ever visit this forum anymore.

SUBs rule!! lol On the value side of things. A Velodyne CHT-15 may be the best under $500 sub available.

Shoot once you get any better than that, its all just sweeter ice'n on the cake...

It is cool how loyal SVS owners are. I don't really think it is like the seagulls in "Finding Nemo", for one reason, if they ever upgrade they always seem to buy another better SVS. Now that is loyalty, I can respect.

Now SVS should send me a B4+ and Velodyne a DD-18, and let me personally torcher (Ooops I mean evaluate) them both personally. That would more than settle the discussion for me, even if it were a dead tie!!! lol

A little brand loyalty banter back and forth is healthy.

If any of you are Jeepers, I own a highly modified Rubicon, and oh man do I hear it from all sides on that purchase. lol

I think that what he's saying, politely, is that the smaller SVS products are a closer match in terms of output ability.

MY point with MY comment about not wanting to mention Paradigm to somebody who is looking at Paradigm is exactly what has happened here in the last 2 pages of this thread.

I said it, not poor Dan Hine. (By the way, thanks Dan)

My point isn't who makes a better sub, my point is, let others have an interest in something else other than SVS.

What the heck does the title of this thread say?
Your dang right it doesn't say "Velo obliterates the compititon...particularly SVS".

It is nigh impossible to find a thread without someone jumping with, "Yeah SVS is the best or better than that".

It's hellannoying!

I thought TV meant that when it comes to bang for your buck at SVS, the B4+ is the last place to look. I think the B4+ is one of their "get the last 10%" and "boy, isn't it pretty" subs. I'd lump the Ultra and the coming PB2-Ultra in that group. There's much more bang per buck over at SVS than any of those models.

Of course, the same could be said for the Velo's as I'm sure 10 or 20 CT-150s could give the DD a run for it's money, so maybe it's a fair comparison after all. I guess I digress. :)
