The Weekly Roundup lists 1943's PHANTOM OF THE OPERA as arriving on DVD 4/12/05... Is Univeral reissuing the OOP "Classic Monster Collection" edition? It's the only previously-released Universal Horror DVD not repackaged in the "Monster Legacy" line. Anybody know?

Apparently, Universal thinks the ONLY time they can release their classic monster movies on DVD is when there is some sort of crappy commercial tie-in. Heaven forbid we should ever get the likes of The Black Cat or Night Monster on DVD without a tie-in.

Universal is just pathetic, really pathetic.

I have to agree. There are tons of old Universal Horror Classics that need to be issued on DVD for the first time instead of re-releasing films that have already been released at some point. The studio ought to get moving.

Shame on you, Universal.

Where are 19+40's Cat People and it non-monster movie sequel Curse of the Cat People? The 1980's remake (which I happily own) has been on DVD for some time now.

The Cat People films are owned by Warner & are coming this year in a Val Lewton Box Set.

Couldn't agree more.

So is it identical to the previous "Classic Monster" edition, then? Or have they at least upgraded the packaging so it matches the "Legacy" releases?
