Total newbie - projector and 5.1 speakers (1 Viewer)

Hello,

I've never had my own home cinema system and I want to look for a reasonably priced projector and 5.1 dolby sound surround speakers.

I can buy them separately but need to be sure they are easily compatible.

I'm not interested in 3D and I don't have a games console (PS3, XBOX etc)

What do you suggest?

Projectors are not a "buy it, hope it worksin the room".Room size?Ceiling/shelf mount? Distance?Size you intend to have? 16:9 or 2.40:1?Light controlled?You need that information handy before anything can be suggested.

Projectors and 5.1 surround sound speakers do not need to compatible. I second Schan that projectors need to be well planned and can be an expense. Depending on the size of the room I estimate a good projector with a receiver and 5.1 speaker set up to cost $5000 - 7000. Can it be done cheaper, yes, but if you want to be serious $3000 and up for a projector plus a screen.
