Uh, I don't know. Cars, Pirates of the Caribbean, Pan's Labyrinth....

I guess I'm kind of curious about the new Superman movie, and maybe Miami Vice. A lot of movies I'm curious about but very few that I'm actually excited for :)

Edit: Ah, I forgot about the new Fincher and Eastwood films.

Damn, forgot about Flags of Our Fathers. I guess by law that means you have to look forward to Lamps in the Wind too, which I do!

My list lines up PERFECTLY with Chuck's, which isn't really a surprise. Especially Snakes on a Plane ;)

Actually--I'm not anticipating Cars at all. And I'm probably going to give it a pass. But I'll add "Black Dahlia" because I'm a sucker for Ellroy.

I'm as optimistic as they come, and aint no way PT Anderson gets a film done...

2006 looks to be a terrific year, one of the best in recent memory, rivaling '99 and '01.

Definitely looking forward to:
Babel (Inarritu)
Zodiac (Fincher)
The Fountain (Aronofsky)
Art School Confidential (Zwigoff)
All the King's Men
Marie Antoinette
The Assassination of Jesse James
The Good German (Soderbergh)
Che (Soderbergh)
The Good Shepherd (De Niro)
Mission Impossible 3
Flags of our Fathers
Perfume (Tom Tywker)
A Scanner Darkly (Linklater)
Fast Food Nation (Linklater)
Inside Man (Spike Lee)
Da Vinci Code

Doubt these will be out this year:
Hail Caesar (Clooney and Coens "idiot trilogy")
The Prestige (Nolan)
Fantastic Mr. Fox (Wes Anderson)
Where The Wild Things Are (Jonze)
Lady From Shanghai (Wong Kar-wai)

And a few others I'd love to exceed expectations:
Inland Empire (Lynch)
The Science Of Sleep (Gondry)
Southland Tales (Richard Kelly)
World Trade Center (Oliver Stone)
Lady In The Water (Shyamalan)
The Black Dahlia (De Palma)
Flight 93 (Greengrass)
The Departed
Sunshine (Boyle)

1. Superman Returns
Superman: The Movie is my favorite movie of all time. If this new one works even a quarter as good, it'll probably be my favorite film of 2006. Then again, Batman Begins is a tough act to follow...
2. The Fountain
This looks surreal and epic and poetic in a way I haven't seen since maybe 2001: A Space Odyssey. Should be a unique experience.
3. V for Vendetta
I dug the trailers, and I dug the style. I've heard very mixed things but for the time being I'm optimistic. Damn that's a cool Guy Fawkes mask.
4. X3
The trailer made the movie look even cooler than the two Singer movies. Ratner is accused of being pedestrian, but I thought his Family Man was a quiet little gem.
5. Clerks II
I'm a huge Kevin Smith fan, and I've been tracking the production through the web diaries. Looks like a new direction and I'm pumped.
6. Rocky Balboa
I'd love to see the old guy still have it in him. The whole approach to this film seems very different. Things like this just don't happen, and it's sure to be interesting no matter how good it ends up being.
7. The DaVinci Code
I read Angels & Demons and heard good things about this one. Ron Howard can be hit and miss but the trailer looked pretty good and the story is interesting.
8. The Children of Men
9. Catch and Release
10. Charlotte's Web

PTA has stated that he'll have a movie this year.
If he does, I'm guessing it'll very late in the year.

Unusually for me, I can't believe how many 2006 films I'm sincerely looking forward to, much less how many '06 flickers seem (at least today) considerably intriguing.
Many of my favorite directors have something (at least potentially) scheduled for release.

I'm always happy when Scorsese has one in the works - loved the original and like this cast. The fabulously talented Mexican trio of Cuaron, Inarritu and del Toro each has a film coming out, plus Almodovar, Linklater, Aronfsky, Lynch, Winterbottom, Spike Lee, Gondry, Jonze(maybe), Tywker, Anderson (maybe) and Soderbergh. They won't all meet expectations but what a year of anticipation! Actual films for adults...wow. I doubt Peter Greenaway's Rembrandt film Nightwatch will make it to these shores in 2006 but that would truly be an embarrassment of riches.

Here's the sweet 17 (17!) I'm most excited about (in no particular order):

The Departed (Scorsese)
The Science of Sleep (Gondry)
Volver (Almodovar)
The Fountain (Aronofsky)
A Scanner Darkly (Linklater)
Tristram Shandy: A Cock & Bull Story (Winterbottom)
Pan's Labyrinth (del Toro)
The Children of Men (Cuaron)
Babel (Inarritu)
Inland Empire (Lynch)
Art School Confidential (Zwigoff)
Night Watch (Bekmambetov?)
Brick (Rian Johnson)
In My Father's Den (McGann)
The Proposition (Hillcoat)
The Death of Mr. Lazarescu (Puiu)
Perfum (Tywker)

BTW, I know some of these are 2004-2005 releases overseas - but they are 2006 releases here in Amerikay. The Pledge sounds intriguing, being a Nick Cave penned Aussie western starring Guy Pierce, Ray Winstone, Danny Huston, John Hurt and David Wenham. I missed the Kiwi thriller In MY Father's Den on the festival circuit so I was happy to see it get US distribution.

I'm eagerly awaiting these 2005 limited release films to finally make it to my city in '06:

Cache (Haneke)
Mrs. Henderson Presents (Frears)
Bubble (Soderbergh)
The Promise (Chan Kaige)

I have cautious optimism regarding the following (although any of them could go either way):

Inside Man (Lee)
The Good German (Soderbergh)
The Illusionist (?)
Sunshine (Boyle)
Rescue Dawn (Herzog)
Lady In The Water (Shyamalan)
The Black Dahlia (DePalma)
The Wicker Man (LaBute)
The Notorious Betty Page (Hamon)

We'll just have to see.

Still, a lot of filmmakers are NOT playing safe in '06, and I'd rather see an interesting failure than a box office behemoth bore.

Last but not least, I'll go see these two no matter what:

Cars - cuz it's Pixar
Flushed Away - cuz it's Aardman (Wallace & Gromit, Creature Cmforst et al) and in spite of Dreamworks

Manderlay (though I suppose I should just buy the Danish DVD rather than wait around for a theatrical release)

a new PTA film
Inland Empire
Volver
The Fountain
Cache
The New World
X3
Inside Man
Rescue Dawn
The Death of Mr. Lazarescu
MI3 (only because PSH is the villain)

Horrified at the concept, yet intrigued because I'm a big fan of the director:
The Wicker Man
