In response to the "pet peeves" thread that's been so popular here, I thought everyone might appreciate a bit of optimism. To quote the great John Connor, "I think we need to be a little more positive here."

What are some things you really, really love? This doesn't have to be anything really deep, like "My wife and kids" or "Achieving a goal like graduating from college." Just the little stuff that makes you smile.

Here are a few of mine:

Getting a rebate check in the mail after you'd forgotten ever sending away for it.

When you're looking for a parking spot and you see the reverse lights of someone pulling out right in front of the office/store, opening a spot for you.

When the stoplight changes from red to green so you can coast right through the light.

Getting the last copy of a movie/game/book at the store.

When someone still has the courtesy to say "excuse me."

Being truly surprised by a twist in a book or movie.

When pre-orders are finally available!

When something makes you laugh so hard you are in tears, and just thinking about it makes it hard to stifle a laugh.

Experiencing something truly spectacular that makes you proud of what humanity is capable of - a glorious piece of art or music, a magnificent example of architecture or engineering, a profound book, etc... Okay, that one is a little bit deep.

Feel free to share!

1--the way my little dog greets me at the door when I come home from work, and is napping next to me on the couch while I surf webtv.

2--when my cat, who totally ignores me otherwise, climbs up on my chest at bedtime to have her ears scratched while she purrs like an idling diesel.

2--A Homemade Cheeseburger & Fries.

3--When I smile at a stranger and it's returned.

4--When I finish writing checks for the bills and have enough leftover to make it thru to the next payday.

Cleaning out the backseat of your car, and finding an uncashed paycheck from 4 months ago (good thing it's good for 6 months after date of issuance).

Smoking a fine joint.

Getting a relaxing buzz from 1 beer.

I'm a scale modeler, so I'm happiest when I'm in my hobbyroom alone and bent over my workbench.

Cooking some damn good food on the grill.

Having a full tank of gas.

Completing the yard work.

Having weekends off.

• Knowing deep down inside that humans will one day travel to the far stars.

• The Beatles

• Oh, and most of all, what else? Attila the Cat (especially as he was this morning before I got up: lying on my chest, library lion-style, purring). Seeing him running and leaping about the house (as he was this evening). Playing with him the way he likes on his scratching tower (just minutes ago).

1- High quality, very thick socks.

2- An insanely long and insanely hot shower after a tough night at work.

3- When everyone in your band gets in the same great emotional zone during a song.

4- When after said song, the former high-school geek drummer has a circle of beautiful women cluster around him :)

I have to second the following ones:

"When something makes you laugh so hard you are in tears, and just thinking about it makes it hard to stifle a laugh."

"a purring cat" and its assorted variations, and Jack, my cat Misha does the same thing sometimes. She also likes to crawl under the covers and purr when I'm in bed.

"When my wife is actually in the mood."

"Cuddling with a girl that I care for" - in my case that would be my wife ;)

and I'll add:

Listening to a really good sounding CD or SACD on my system.

Waking up in the morning and seeing my wonderful wife lying next to me, with Jambo the cat curled up using her head as a pillow.

A nice afternoon nap on a rainy Sunday.
