Yes, last night's episode was pretty good. Two small nit pickers:

1. I found it hard to believe that Ryan so easily agreed to go to the debs ball (and I mean initially) considering the world he comes from. I just cannot fathom any self respecting street wise kid jumping at the chance to put on a tux, learn the waltz, and then show up to bow, etc. Don't get me wrong -- the episode worked, but if you really think about it, I don't think it would have been that easy to get Ryan to go along with this no matter how much he wants to fit in. I was waiting for at least one "You want me to do what? No way!" from him.

2. It really stretched credulity that the extremely voluptuous, "hot" (so to speak) Summer didn't have a date for this affair. Again, the episode worked, but gimme a break. Couldn't her escort have gotten sick or broken his leg, gotten stuck in Europe or something, instead of having her so completely, unbelievabley dateless?

But it is, after all, just TV. And I am really enjoying it. I get the distinct impression that Sandy is going to end up representing the neighbor in his legal crisis. And when he does, the Cohen family will become even more estranged from the affluent, comformist world they live in. Strike one: Ryan. Strike two: Peter (I think that's his name). Can't wait to see where all this is going.

She had 3 (as she also said near the end of the episode).

Ryan was to be her first, but that was changed by Marissa during the waltz practice.

Seth was her second, and he ended up with the 'new' girl after being dumped by Summer.

Luke? (the boyfriend) was to be her third (when Marissa wasn't coming) until he split after the fight with her and Ryan.

So there was nothing too out of place. She traded up and was disappointed when she couldn't trade back down (predicable, but good anyway).

Hi, Gary,

But the dates she had were not "real" dates, i.e. they were all by assignment or by default. What I mean is, no one asked her and/or she had no boy with whom it was assumed she would go, as with Marissa and Luke. I guess I find it kind of unbelievable that this girl doesn't seem to have a boy friend or even any boy who is interested in her, besides Seth.

Err, Summer's probably been around the block, and has either got a rep for being a real snobby gal, or really thinks she can snare any guy she sets her sights on, and she got caught in her own web of insincerity.

Ryan probably agreed to go so easily b/c of Marisa. Women can make men do very unusual things.:D

Deborah,

Yes, I was thinking you may have meant that a few seconds after I hit the reply button (I should have edited). I also agree she should have easily been able to pick up a date before the event, but I have no idea how cotillions (sp?) work so in terms of partners (It looks like Marissa was assigning people partners during the waltz).

Guess they took the easy way from A to B for sake of story element of having Seth turn her down later.

Just because you're a hot girl doesn't mean you'll have a boyfriend or date. Look at the other girls there, they aren't too ugly either. Plus she seems rather picky, maybe she was asked but refused hoping for something better.

I'm waiting to see if the producers manage to put the Summer character in a bra/bikini in every episode. Even 90210 wasn't that gratuitious! Not that I'm complaining...

If your mother leaves you and some family agrees to take on the responsibility of a parent b/c they care about you, the odds are you will do your best to fit in, no matter how odd it may seem. Then add the fact the girl you like is going and looks great, bam, street kid from Chino is going to a katillion.

i believe marisa was only assigning dance partners for the girls who didn't have dates. that's what the "white knights" were for, to fill the places for dateless girls.

summer is probably just so bitchy, or just such high maintenance, that she may have burned her bridges among the available male populace. perhaps they're all just so sick of her and her ways that they don't even boither, no matter how hot she is.

Another great episode. Sad that its winding down to its hiatus for a few months to its new time. Good thing is, we will be moving into our new house in between and should be settled in and have satellite back up in time for the hopefully triumphant return at its new time slot.

There are too many possiblities of what can happen on this show to discuss, but that just has me even more hooked.

What a shot Jimmy took at PG.. You don't know what it is to provide for a family.. You could lose your job and your wife wouldn't even flinch..

Its true, but hell, I don't think PG's character would ever steal to take care of them.. he would be more likely to sell his belongings and do whatever else it took to make it.
Great comeback by PG on that one too. Wonder what choice the rich Bitch next door will make.. stay and be poor (again), or divorce and let hubby go to prison. Stay tuned!

Its really too bad it is going on hiatus and worst of all the timeslot its coming back in which could spell certain death.
Its being movied to Thursdays at 9:00 opposite shows like CSI and Will and Grace. Ohhh OHHHH.
There is a chance that it could be moved from Thursdays since American Juniors was just pulled from the Fall schedule.
Everyone right Fox. Id hate to see that Guilty pleasure go away.

I thought The OC was supposed to be the next big show for Fox. Why in the world would they move it to Thursday night, the best night of TV? Tuesdays have almost nothing on, it is a good place for the show to stay.

Well, we'll get something in the 8 p.m. Tuesday timeslot (plus American Idol in January) from Fox, and then "24" in the 9 p.m. Tuesday timeslot, so that didn't leave much room for "The O.C." other than Thursdays.

It would make more sense to me to move "24", which already has a decent following, to Thursdays, and leave "The OC" on Tuesdays where it can probably get a bigger audience.

Why can't Fox brodacast 3 hrs of prime time by the way? That would make it easier for them to schedule shows...

The show is a blatant 90210 clone, both content and production wise. Everything from the music video promotions to the soap-opera like content... Don't get me wrong, I like the show. But 90210 did quite well. Didn't Fox also start that out on Thursday nights against NBC's "must see" line-up of the time? I guess it was a little easier then since CBS wasn't such a hot 18-24 contender. It will be interesting to see what happens. Kudos to Fox for giving this show the proper amount of promotion for a chance. Why couldn't they do the same for Firefly, Family Guy, Futurama, etc? I guess b/c the shows didn't have the same demos.

Oh and the fact that McG is an executive producer shouldn't help things.... :D Sorry, not a big fan of his. He's like Bruckheimer/Bay on steroids.
