The director/producers made a nice gesture by having Shirley sing the last few stanzas of Goodnight, My Someone in harmony with Marian, a nice touch.
Awesome that you got to see the show. How did Shirley sound?

Must be some fantastic "fountain of youth" in River City... The original Broadway Marian - Barbara Cook - is still singing up a storm at 85. :)

I was working at an LA area theatre a few years ago, when a lady came up to me and said "would you hold this for a Mrs. Partridge" who was coming later. I knew what to expect. I said sure, but I was thinking in this case you could have said Shirley or Laurey or Marion. Couple minutes later there she was, only couple feett away, face to face, looking slightly older, but every bit as enchanting.
I was in a post office line with a woman I correctly identified as Susan Luckey, who was a regular at that same theatre and always came over with her daughter to say hello.
Anyone have any favorite lines from this movie? I have a bunch.
"This Ruby Hat of Omar Ay-Ay-Ay I am appalled!"
"Oh yes, I'm reticent!"

"Not one poop outa you, Madame!"
"I think he means 'peep'."

"There's burglars in the bedroom while you're fiddling in the parlor!"
"Who's bedroom are the burglars fiddling in, George???"

In Meredith Willson's novelization of The Music Man, there is a line I just love that isn't in either the play or the movie. Immediately after the song Sincere, Harold follows Marian and tries to strike up a conversation. In the movie (and play), the exchange ends with Marian saying, "I am not impressed by your credentials, which I have not seen, nor your manners, which I have." In the novel, she continues and says, "And as to your general, uh, 'personality', I believe is the new word, I have no desire for personal knowledge of it - or you."
I chuckle just typing that one.

"I'll settle your hash as soon as I get these premises off my eldest daughter!"
"It's Capulets like you that make blood in the streets. Yea Gods!" (probably not an exact quote there)
"You watch your phraseology!"
"(Mrs. Paroo's Swoon)"
Quoted in a Mystery Science Theatre 3000 episode: "Don't dawdle Amarylis!"

One of the most oft-quoted movies of all time...in the Frezon household.

"I-I-I-I-I am appalled" probably comes up every couple of days (whenever someone stammers slightly).

"Not on your kidney plaster!"

"Good morning, Mayor Shinn! It is if you want to go around in your drawers all day."
