How about the bullet holes in the black car!? Jeez, you MUST have been playing that sub loud. :D

Seriously, it looks really nice though. I've been thinking about eventually replacing my Tempest with a dual AV12 setup. Your project in that tiny little box would be great to double up.

Owen,

Nah the bullet holes are from a Mac 9'... ya know I run
drugs to pay for all the crap! J/K :)

Thanks for the compliments. The sub sounds fantastic
considering the enclosure size and the fact that I don't
have an LT on it.. Two of them will be spectacular. I will
ultimately run duals in stereo mode but I do think I may
go with a slightly larger enclosure when I do the second
one I will just fab up a pair of enclosures at the same
time.

I was going to go with a ported enclosure but now I see your luck with a sealed av12 I might just have to put each of the two I got coming in a one cube with a LT. I got a five channel rotel amp I ain't using for power if I put a channel on each voicecoil.

Shawn,

Just realize that while I say it has great output, it's
output won't match a vented alignment. The sealed alignment
trades off at least 6Db of output to the vented enclosure.

But to my ears it's so tight.. In most music (other than
rap, R&B and Pop) the thing is completely invisable you
never even take notice of the sub... It's transparent! But
when you fire up the low bass heavy music it's right there
doing it's thing shaking things up!

It even does well in movies.. I haven't calibrated yet but
in SW ATOTC with the gain running about 50% in the opening
scene "Return To Corisant" (SP?) I read 112DB @ 12.5' away
and that's uncorrected. Not too shabby to these ears.

Maybe I'll try to get the best of both worlds when I eventually upgrade. I might just try to mix my current Tempest with a smaller sealed AV12 or Shiva. I have a few thoughts on this (all pretty random and optimistic)...

1) if I put one in the left corner and one in the right, I am still corner loading, but can smooth out the current 'left side is a bit bass heavy' feel.
(I know there will be problems with cancellation, etc., but maybe not that bad?)

2) I can hopefully still get tight, punchy bass where required, as well as the lowest of the low rumblings.

3) more bass in general! :D

I'm probably way off base, and I don't want to jack your thread, but it inspired me dammit!!

Brett,

I have a BP1503 in a ported box tuned to 19hz with a 1000watt QSC amp. The av12's were for my new car but I decided to upgrade my ht. I bought a big screen, bought some av2's to replace my paradigms and am going to put the av12's in the HT. I mostly want to see if I can even out some bass issues in my room. The sub's will probably serve well as stereo subs. If I can approach 110db-115db in my room it will be fine:emoji_thumbsup:

Bryan,

It's SUPER easy to work with.. All you need is a utility
knife or X-Acto Knife and a pair of scisors..

I would recommend removing the ports (if they are of the
flared variety) and applying the laminate then reinstaling
the ports. If they are flush ports you can easily laminate
over them and then cut them out.

Owen,

I am glad I inspired you :) You certainly are not jackin my
thread! This thread is about subs so lets talk about them!

I haven't ever used dual subs in oposing corners but I am
guessing if you run one 180 degress out of phase it should
couple with the other sub rather than cancel it. I think the
biggest issue would be dealing with spikes in the outoput
due to two dissimilar drivers and enclosures that may act
together to cause more output at one point than another.

I think a BFD would be handy to tame such a situation and
there are also other things that would help to smooth out
the room response like bass traps.

Shawn,

I see no reason why you won't hit 115Db easy....

Hey Brett, it looks Schweet
My IB plans have been put on hold so I am designing a large enclosure for my 2 av15s. My design started out as a single driver ebs cab, but then I decided to use both 15s so I ended up with a 250l box for both.
I want to make it triangular and put it in a corner with the drivers on the hypotenuse. Approximate measurements are height - 66.5", and 24"x24"x34" for the triangle. I am going to put 2 5"x33" ports in the top, and drive with a rmx-1450.
Not exactly a Truesub clone :)

Brett, thats kind of what I was figuring. I thought I would keep everything tuned and tweaked the way it is now (optimized for the Tempest) and then try to blend in the other sub, dialing in the phase, etc. This would be an interesting project. I know there are a few guys out there who use two different subs, and they seem to like it.

the problem is the ports are permentley installed they are sealed in useing cauck and scrued down. i guess i will just paint the sub front then. i did make a 1x4 slect pine trim. the sub is bult into the wall but not atached to the wall i use the trom to bridge between the sub and wall.
