I wonder if New Line will alter the cover with a banner indicating ROTK's 11 Oscars (including Best Picture). Almost all the other Best Picture winners on DVD have it labeled on the cover.

I guess we'll find out Monday.

Yeah isn't it like a rule to put a little golden guy on the cover if the film is a Best Picture winner?

And for the record, as if anyone cares, I'm getting both versions for the third time. As someone said, it's not just the different extras, but also the films themselves are different. Plus the theatrical editions are Jackson's "director's cuts" as he's said numerous times. Extended editions are just for extras.

A special extended edition of The Return of the King will follow as planned in time for the holidays.

Disc Two will feature behind-the-scenes specials, featurettes, theatrical trailers, TV spots, The Lord of the Rings Trilogy supertrailer, a preview of the upcoming The Lord of the Rings based video game from Electronic Arts and a link to exclusive online content about the motion picture trilogy.

Maybe it's because they're were in too much of a hurry to get the EE version out quicker than in years past? One can only hope...and pray...
