I'm surprised there were no comments on this latest Mark Burnett production that was on Fox last night. I was really looking forward to it and was very disappointed. Was hoping it would be like The Restaurant which I enjoyed. This was too contrived and forced. I'll give them the benefit of the doubt and give it another week.

Yeah, very forced. The main reason my wife and I watched was because my wife worked for Tim and Tom when they still owned Travelscape.com. She actually drove Tom's Corvette and Tim's 911 Turbo a few years back when they were still running Travelscape.com

Here's a quick history on Tim and Tom and Travelscape..

In the beginning there was Las Vegas Reservation Systems. They started by selling hotel rooms and vacation packages to Vegas.

They decide to expand business beyond Vegas and start Travelscape.com

Expedia / Microsoft decides to buy Travelscape.com. Tim and Tom are now super-rich.

Microsoft sells Expedia to InterActive Corp. Tim and Tom are now even richer. (I'm sure they got tons of Expedia stock from the previous deal...)

They decide to buy the Golden Nugget from Steve Wynn.

What a horrible show. So much potential there, but it was incredibly stupid and obviously ~99% scripted. I've heard there's a show called "American Casino" on Discovery that's significantly better, but unfortunately I don't get cable.

All they needed to do was cover the casino managing aspect of it, Instead we get to watch these douche bags throw a party and try to get their geek buddy laid. I was totally disappointed. This show sucks.

They actually managed to make a boring reality show about Las Vegas.

Haven't been to Vegas in about 8 years, but The Golden Nugget was my favorite place downtown. (Also, the place I won the most. ) But it's really just much classier feeling than the rest of downtown.

Well, maybe the producers came to the realization that running a casino is a pretty boring job and wouldn't make it on T.V. without adding some drama.

Not to defend Mr. Burnett's latest reality venture, because I agree with the majority of comments in this thread, but apparently Fox handed Burnett several pages of cuts to make prior to the show's debut. In this post-Janet-Jackson-wardrobe-malfunction world of broadcasting, it appears that the network felt the show was too racy (even by Fox standards) and requested many changes to tone it down before it aired. How much of an effect this had on the final product is anyone's guess, but I have to think it contributed to the "forced feel" of some of the program's more DOA elements.

I find the card-counter odd.

Did the producers go up to him at some point after he had been flagged and ask him if they could follow him around. Wouldn't that tip him off that he'd been spotted by security?

And then, after taking the guy up to his room, he still signs the release to allow his face to be shown on TV? Wow!

And what kind of card-counter lets his face be seen on TV anyway? Isn't that kind of bad for business?
