I'm on a 70's kick & am looking to build a collection of movies. I've never seen "The Candidate" starring Robert Redford but hear good things about it. I noticed there's no widescreen. Anyone have any knowledge about that? Also, any opinions on the movie itself?

Unfortunately, it was never released on disc in widescreen. However, it is streaming on Warner Archive Instant in widescreen.

We need this title on BD, but with it being on WA Instant then that probably won't happen for a while.

Thank you. I saw the trailer the other day & thought this really looked good.

I think The Candidate was one of the many movies from the 70s that were shot in full screen and later matted for widescreen. Charley Varick is another example. Just crop the full screen film and you'll have the widescreen version. In terms of free media players, the VLC Media Player allows you to do this.

I wonder of a proper blu ray release is on the horizon.
