Universal Studios has just announced The Big Lebowski: Collector's Edition for release on October 18th.

The only info for now is separate anamorphic widescreen and fullscreen editions and a retail of $19.98. A Gift Set will be available as well for $49.98.

All I ask is "Please no DVD 18". Universal's cannot manufacture these discs, and as badly as I want this, I will pass if it is released on DVD 18. Any other studio, and I could probably overlook this, but not from Universal.

At least the WS and FS versions won't both be crammed on the same disc this time.

$10 says that the gift set comes with a bag of "The whites". :D

Excellent! Only annoying thing is that I caved in and bought the original release only a few months ago but this won't stop me from getting it.

I hope Universal will use a new transfer for the SE. If not, I'm skeptical about double dipping (the Coen bros DVDs aren't exactly known for their special features).

A Dual Sided/Dual Layer disc

Universal has had problems with nearly every title that they've released on this format, particularly they hang up & pixellate around the layer change.

I don't see why they would use a DVD-18 for a movie that runs 118-minutes and I doubt that the extras be that extensive. New anamorphic transfer, commentary, new interviews with cast. I reckon it will be a 1-disc, like 12 Monkeys.

BTW, is the Casino disc truly a DVD-18 or is it a DVD-14?

At first I didn't understand what this meant but now that I think about it, my DVD-18 of Orgasmo does indeed hang up at the layer change on the supplements side of the disc....HMMM.

"And proud we are of all of them."

Hallelujah! This is one title I've been expecting, nay hoping to double-dip on. I'm all for the "Achiever's Gift Set." I wonder what's in it? Creedence tapes? Thai sticks? A copy of "Logjammin'"? When will we find out?!

Fuck it, I'm going bowling.

"Shut the fuck up, Donnie."

Cool, I bought this used a few months back and that was my first experience with the film, and I can't recall the last time I laughed so hard and so often!

Maybe 'The Achievers Gift Set' will come with some of Donnie's ashes in a tiny coffee can for spreading at sea. ;)

LOL, that would be funny if the collectors set came with a rug! :D

I will wait and see what this set looks like in the A/V department. As much as I like supplements, I have probably 100 DVDs in my collection that I have not watched a single supplement on, so Im going to sit on the fence for this one.
