LOS ANGELES (June 4th, 2012) – Car chases, bloody bodies and a hard-core prison… all in a day’s work. Mel Gibson’s vacation plans take a turn for the worse in the raw, explosive and action-packed GET THE GRINGO, arriving on Blu-ray, DVD and digital download July 17 courtesy of Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment and Icon Productions.
Gibson stars as Driver, an American criminal who violently crashes his car through the border wall as he tries to outrun the U.S. Border Patrol and coming to a screeching halt in Mexico. Having survived the crash only to land inside a hard-core Mexican prison, Driver enters the strange and dangerous world of “El Pueblito.” In the middle of this ruthless penal colony, Driver must do whatever it takes to survive, even if he must turn to the unlikely guidance from a 10-year-old kid who shows him the ropes.
Featuring a command performance reminiscent of his early action-adventure career, Gibson’s talent is excelled only by his contributions to GET THE GRINGO as the film’s producer and co-screenwriter. Gibson teamed with Adrian Grunberg his first assistant director on APOCALYPTO who co-wrote and debuted as director on this explosive action flick. Filmed in Mexico, the multi-lingual film also stars Daniel Gimenez Cacho, Jesus Ochoa, Roberto Sosa, Dolores Heredia, Kevin Hernandez, Fernando Becerril, Mayra Serbullo, Mario Zaragoza, Gerardo Taracena, Tenoch Huerta and Peter Gerety. Co-producers include Bruce Davey and Stacy Perskie. The Blu-ray is loaded with special features including five behind-the-scenes featurettes on the making of the film and a music video. Prebook is June 20.

I saw this at the cinema in the UK as How I spent My Summer Vacation (the original title I think) & thought it was a terrific action movie, & Mel was great. I'll be getting this.

    There’s No “I” In Team
There’s No “I” in Team – Get the Gringo tells the story of how one man survives a Mexican prison with the help of a 10-year-old kid. In this feature, we will list other valuable young sidekicks who helped make their partners look good. They’ll include: Robin in Batman Forever, Buzz Lightyear in Toy Story and Pedro Sanchez in Napoleon Dynamite.

    BACK TO THE FUTURE

Michael J Fox may be the lead player as Marty McFly in the Sci-Fi classic Back to the Future, but when you look at the bigger picture, he’s technically Doc’s (Christopher Lloyd) kid sidekick. With his California teen smarts and rock n’ roll edge, Marty has just what the Doc needs to fix the unexpected problems created by a trip to the past and successfully get them Back to the Future.
INDIANA JONES AND THE TEMPLE OF DOOM
Indy’s Temple of Doom sidekick, “Short Round” is one of the most memorable kid sidekicks of the 80’s with some of the most quotable lines. Often one step ahead of the much older Indy, this cheeky character isn’t waiting to be rescued but is a part of the rescue, using his street smarts to help get them out of jams - which is much more than we can say about Willie Scott!

    BIG

When Josh Baskin wakes up as an adult version of himself (Tom Hanks) he runs straight to his best friend Billy who stays by his side all through the whole ‘adult’ thing. Whether it’s having a string fights or singing ‘Shimmy, shimmy coco pop…’, helping Josh find a job or even an apartment, Billy makes a great sidekick, not to mention an awesome best friend.

    THE PROFESSIONAL

Natalie Portman’s most underrated yet memorable role was the little girl “hitman” named Mathilda in Luc Besson’s classic Leon, aka The Professional. After witnessing her family get murdered by crooked FBI agents, Mathilda moves in with her neighbor Leon, who happens to be a professional hitman. The young orphan pleas with Leon to train her to “clean” (kill) in order to seek revenge for her family’s murder. Even though Leon becomes Mathilda’s protector, the 12-year-old sidekick ultimately teaches Leon a thing or two about friendship and love.
