So my friend is looking to add a sub to his current setup. He currently has an Onkyo Htc-rc 330 receiver(http://www.onkyousa.com/Products/model.php?m=HT-RC330&class=Receiver), and two bookshelf speakers along with a passive sub. The bookshelf speakers are sitting on the floor next to his TV stand and the sub right next to them. The whole room is carpeted(thick carpet, not the smooth thin kind). I've attached a layout of his room that I made in Paint(awesome drawing skills...). He is probably looking to spend $150-$200, and I'm assuming a 12" sub is probably best for his dimensions, but I'll let you guys decide. After you look at the layout, if he wants to put the sub towards the back, you can see that there is no wall to really run the RCA cord along, since there is an open gap at each front side. So...I'm not sure if the best bet is to place the sub next to the TV stand, or if it would sound much better in the rear, to look at wireless subs, though those cost more and I'm not sure if they sacrifice quality or not. Let me know what you guys think, with the placement of the sub and recommendations for subs in that price range.
