Stevie Wonder - 'I Wish'

Nirvana - 'Come as You Are'

Led Zeppelin - 'Dazed and Confused'

Should all be in the top ten.

This guy's list seems too heavily skewed toward punk.

I like the Mingus and Coltrane references, though.

The Band - "Rag Mama Rag"

Anything by James Jamerson.

How about Jaco Pastorius on Joni Mitchell's "Coyote"?

"Bed's Too Big Without You" - Police

Every Breath You Take - The Police - though nearly any Police song would work

I agree with Bill Withers - Lovely Day it's a great bass line and great song

Fleetwood Mac - The Chain - when John McVie does that neat little bass solo it's makes the song, and of course Lindsey's soaring solo over the end of it

The Who - My Generation - John Entwhistle's Bass lines make this song great.

While I agree with a lot of the alternate suggestions above...

I can't take this list seriously with the glaring omission of Aerosmith's "Sweet Emotion" :D

[aka Michael Bay's default movie soundtrack bass line when the heroes need to "get it going" to take on the baddies]

Rush is my favorite band, and Geddy Lee's the best rock bassist ever (IMO), but I couldn't think of anything that deserves a top 50 spot.

A few more:

Eagles - 'One of these Nights'

The Who - 'Boris the Spider'

The Police - 'Walking on the Moon' (I agree, tons of Police tunes could be mentioned here)

Ok, thought of a Rush tune with tremendous bass lines, though not as catchy as more traditional pop/rock tunes:

Rush - 'Digital Man'

Although I was surprised to see Diamond D, which was quite a blast from the past, I am even more surprised that Tool didn't make the cut. Sober? 46 & 2?

I guess my question should be: who are most of the people on Stylus's list? A better question is: who the f--- is Stylus? Is it a magazine for bassheads, dj's, ex-ravers, techno-heads, burn-out punkers? I've never heard of it. I'm 37, and I'm not really into 'bass for bass's sake.' If Diamond D is a blast from the past, how old are you people?

Primus, I can see. Mingus and Coltrane, cool. James Brown, sure.

But any punk record has no business being on this list, and techno-disco-trance-house-whatever is a frickin' joke. I, too, can program a keyboard.

Stylus didn't even have the right Stevie Wonder song on its list.

Any list of bass lines without Earth Wind and Fire, P-Funk, Dr. Dre, Led Zeppelin, Cream, and The Who on it, cannot be taken seriously.

How about "One of These Days" by Pink Floyd? I know they already got in there with "Money" but I would argue that the former is better. "Money" was a hit which is why it is more memorable.

Sorry, but IMHO any list that can miss out Paul McCartney's bass playing on 'Something' has no right to express an opinion.
