It's a better investment. If the 3d theatricals hit big, they could bring in $300M+ each. The originals, if released on Blu, will only ever be supplemental features as far as Lucas is concerned, so he figures he'll make the Blu-Ray money without having to spend anything on the OOTs. I say it as someone who would much rather have the OOTs than 3D.

Honestly, I don't think there's any way The Phantom Menace will do $300M+ when it hits theaters in 2012. Now if he was starting with the original SW to kick off this whole 3D gimmick I think it could easily do that amount, especially with the inflated ticket prices for 3D showings, but I just can't see TPM garnering that much interest.
