While the status of the transfer is unknown, especially given the less-than-stellar comments over the years on how unsatisfactory it was, this is clearly not the same disc as the original release which was exclusive to a box set of all three films:

SPIDER-MAN 2 does not list its extras at this time, but it will likely carry over the same DVD contents like this first film does:

I'm "in" for the original Spider-Man on Blu ... and probably for Spider-Man 2 as well.

It would also be nice if the "Spider-Man 2" BD included the "2.1" cut via seamless branching. I *really* enjoyed the extended fight scene with Doc Ock ...

I'd be surprised if we didn't see another re-release before the reboot launches. I'd like to replace my dvds but will wait and see how these look.

I'm kind of on the fence about these. I'm willing to buy 1 and 2 if the Blu has the breadth of extras that the DVDs had, but I also think there will be another re-release with significant new features around the time the reboot comes out (sort of like WB releasing those nice sets for the Burton/Schumacher Batman movies to coincide with Begins' video release).

The original Blu-ray of the film has this feature, basically asking you which version you wanted to watch in the main menu.

Turns out Sony put the wrong information out, and these will be the same discs as the box set.

That means no extras, no new transfers.

Easy pass for me then. New transfers will hopefully be on the way when the new movie gets closer (or when it comes out on video).

what a wasted opportunity.

Meanwhile, Sony has announced that it's re-issuing many of its biggest Blu-ray titles in new "Essentials" editions starting on 11/16. Titles will include Air Force One, Bad Boys, Black Hawk Down, Casino Royale, The Da Vinci Code: Two-Disc Edition, The Fifth Element: Remastered Edition, Ghost Rider: Extended Cut, Hancock, Snatch and the Spider-Man 3: Two Disc Edition,

Really strange that the 3rd movie is a 2 disc edition

The existing Spider-Man 3 Blu-ray is a two-disc set, isn't it? It's my understanding that these "Essentials" editions are just re-issues of previously-released discs.

Yes, that's correct. Spider-Man 3 on Blu had everything that the deluxe DVD had. The first 2 had no features other than 2 allowing you to pick between theatrical and the 2.1 version.

These are films for which I have always been on the fence. No special features will keep me on the pass side, or I might bite if they go down to $15 a piece.
