I'm quite surprised that Paramount are releasing all 5 seasons of South Park! Weren't 1+2 released by Warner Bros.? I do remember someone mentioning that it's Comedy Central that have done all the work on these sets, but can't remember all the details!

The rights went to Paramount after warner released seasons 1 and 2 already. Paramount is simply repackaging the warner releases with their logo on the spine. Exact same discs and content.

Actually, Warner didn't own any of Comedy Central, but since they didn't have their own home video distribution company, they had to license their stuff out. They intitially licensed "South Park" out to Rhino, which was swallowed up by Warner. Viacom then bought Comedy Central, and Comedy Central didn't need Warner's home video distribution, since Viacom owns Paramount.

Not true. Since Comedy Central's inception, the network was owned 50/50 by Warner Brothers (WB) and Paramount/Viacom (P/V). WB had the home video rights to the series, while P/V had the home video rights to the motion picture. Then a couple years ago, P/V bought out WB's stake in CC, getting 100% control of the network. With that buyout of WB's half, P/V took over distribution of SP's season sets.

If you call just throwing some shrink wrap on a set of boxes a "four pack." ;)

They look pretty bad as a package, and at the local Best Buy they all appeared damaged/beat up.

actually rhino released the first season in volume packs and part of the second season in volume packs, but I dont think they put out the whole of the second season?, before it was decided that comedy central would re-release everything in there own packaging. I believe there are more extras with the new box sets.
