Jim Hill, writer from JimHillMedia.com and all-around Disney guru is reporting on his website today that Song of the South is definately being released on DVD in 2006. Obviously there's been no formal announcement and its subject to change, but Jim is ususally spot-on on stuff like this...

Roman, you beat me to it.

Great news indeed. Fall 2006, if the story is true.

How dare Disney release this racist piece of trash! Everyone needs to boycott this DVD when it comes out!

[IMG] This is pretty neat... I'll be preordering this ASAP. I just hope the side-effects of this release do not include flying pigs and swarms of locusts.

    Thanks the heads up Roman!

Kudos to Disney for doing the right thing and allowing people who have never seen the film, myself included, a chance to view it and make up our own minds.

    Let's see....

    Disney potentially releasing SOTS [IMG]
Warners releasing a "Controversial Classics" collection [IMG]
MGM releases the Charlie Chan Chanthology [IMG]
Fox still insists on keeping their Chan films hidden from the public [IMG]

Tomorrow's Forecast for Hell: 22 degrees with a chance of Snow. Seriously though, I'll definitely be buying this one.

I think the main issue was the portayal of the slaves as being "happy" with their lot in life, when according to the NAACP their lives, well, sucked.

It would require a lot to make that kind of change to the movie...

It's not like there was some use of the "n word" that can be bleeped, or looped over.

There are no slaves in the film; it's set during Reconstruction. See the discussion in this thread.

Although even that discussion should probably be taken over to Movies. [IMG]
