Been looking forward to this coming to Blu-Ray for a long time. One of my favorite films of all time. The DVD is non-anamorphic (and by today's standards, looks absolutely terrible), so I'm looking forward to finally retiring it in favor of this Blu-Ray.

The only thing that scares me is that it is Universal. I be waiting for reviews on this one.

One of the great, beautiful scores. I hope the Blu-ray does it justice.

Please don't tell me the damn thing's in original mono. I've been waiting for them to remix it to stereo for 30 years.

Matt, I've lost count how many times I've been parked in my car on a summer evening with the roof and windows open waiting for someone to arrive while John Barry's score played on my deck...and almost without fail complete strangers will wander up saying some variation on "That music is soooo beautiful...what is it?" When I tell them it's the Somewhere in Time soundtrack, they're usually gobsmacked, "Really? I must see/rent/buy that!"

True "justice" for this particular score would be an isolated track.

Same here. The DVD transfer was so bad -- I'm concerned whether universal will do a good job. I'll probably get it regardless, though, as my wife was not happy when I got rid of the DVD.

The film score is terrific, but there is another reason my wife and I like this movie so much. It was filmed at one of our favorite vacation spots -- Mackinac Island, which is located between Michigan's lower and upper peninsulas.

Hugely popular in Asia, it was regularly revived when I lived in Hong Kong.

Mackinac Island is one of my favorite vacation spots also. I was there in early October(less busy than the summer months) and the colors were just beautiful. I got a ton of video captured with my Canon Vixia. So glad I brought it along.

Not seen this movie. Might have to if the BD is worthy. My only issue with this movie(like all Hollywood of the era) is it is a far cry from French, Spanish and UK variety...

Mackinac is a favorite of mine as well. Usually every third year make a trek to Isle Royale with a "run around the lake"(Michigan).

How many movies have been made on Mackinac?

Here's how Amazon handles $19.99 (list) catalog titles:

    1) Early pre-order price is $13.99
    2) At some point between initial pre-order availability and actual street date, the pre-order price rises to $14.99
    3) As release date gets closer, the pre-order price might rise to $15.99 or even $16.99
    4) On release date, the price is either $14.99, $15.99 or $16.99

About 1% of the time, the initial $13.99 pre-order price holds through release date. 99% of the time, the last week or two before release the price is either $14.99 or $15.99.

Bottom line: If you want to get this movie on release date, PRE-ORDER IT NOW, while it is $13.99!

Or, you can wait until a few weeks or months AFTER release date, when the price might fall back to $13.99 or lower.

    Thank you, Mark.
Been telling HTF members that for awhile.
That is why I put these preorders up as soon as they appear.

The longer you wait, the more you will probably pay.

Thanks Mark, I was wondering about the pre-order prices. I've noticed that the prices for "Funny Face" and "Sabrina" (scheduled for release in April) have already crept up to $16.98 ... I could have sworn they were more in the $13-$14 range when I added them to my wish list just a week and a half ago.

The swimming pool at the Grand Hotel was used for the Esther Williams film This Time for Keeps.

When we visited the island back in September, I came across this tombstone at one of the historic cemeteries while we were hiking.

I know the photography section of HTF doesn't get much traffic, but I started a thread there with photos from that visit. There was some nice discussions about the island between a few of the members who have visited this special place.

I am not a huge fan of the movie, but I think that score absolutely made the movie.

Just preordered this using the link provided by Ron. This is a great, great film - I hope Universal takes the huge fanbase into consideration and does the film justice. They're probably the only studio left that doesn't think today's audiences are sophisticated enough to know what constitutes a properly-mastered film transfer. A steelbook using the original art would be awesome.
