So you own the individual Bond releases on Blu-ray. Will you buy the set or wait? (1 Viewer)

I usually praise Fox for the things they do.

It's very seldom that I'll stand up and chastise them for
a decision that I feel is very unfair to consumers who have
been very loyal to them.

In this instance, it is the loyalty shown by consumers like
myself who spent good money purchasing the 11 individual
Bond titles released over the years in hopes that the studio
would make the remaining titles available to us as soon as
possible.

Well, Fox did arrange to make the remaining titles available
to us, but they did so by only including them in an upcoming
$200 complete collection boxed set.

I have to say, this a real kick-in-the-pants to those of us that
put faith into the studio for completing something they
started -- that is, making all the individual releases available
to those that started collecting them as such.

While I don't find fault with Fox releasing a boxed set like this,
I am very disappointed that they have made no indications to
anyone (no matter how hard we have already pressed them
privately) as to whether they will continue with the individual
releases shortly after this boxed set is made available.

I mean, I think we all know what is being done here. The
studio doesn't want to jeopardize the sale of the boxed sets
by making promises that individual releases would be forthcoming.

However, personally, I think this goes against the grain of
the great folks I know at Fox and MGM to make a decision to
keep the Bond collectors in the dark. It's as if the studio wants
to intentionally force the original collectors to repurchase titles
they already own, via the complete set, by providing as little
information as possible about the future of Bond singles.

At best, I would have hoped that a complete roadmap of these
Bond releases would have been outlined with the announcement
of the boxed set.

You just don't leave collectors wondering what to do next.


So, my question is, as an owner of the already released Bond
titles, are you planning to buy the complete set or are you going
to hold some blind hope that the studio will make the new titles
available on an individual basis sometime in 2013?

I voted to repurchase the whole shebang. This set will look better on my shelf than a bunch of different cases of varying styles and sizes. I don't know why anyone would think a major Hollywood studio would try to "do right" by the consumer by offering options like buying individual titles versus a pricey box set. It's all about maximizing profits. The honchos at the studios know these movies have rabid fans who will triple and quadruple dip every time a new format pops up. Fox will do the same thing when the time comes to release PROMETHEUS on home video. Maybe they'll even include the two Alien vs. Predator films the next go-round.

Actually, current Amazon price is $199 for the Bond 50 set, not $100 as stated in Ron's post.
I have all the individual blu-ray releases. I will wait for the remaining movies to be released individually.

While I only have the first four Bond films on BR I do have all of them on SDDVD or LD, that BR box set does look awesome but $199 not sure if I can afford it.

As far as some or the arguments made to
somewhat understand what Fox is doing...
We know how this works. What Fox has done
should come as no surprise to anyone.

However, generally, a studio will release all
the titles of a franchise individually before a
boxed set.

What is being done here is quite the opposite.

We put a lot of faith into believing that we could
continue collecting these Bond releases individually.

The studio essentially stopped these releases
midstream, making the remaining titles available
only via a purchase of a $200 boxed set.

Personally, I wouldn't mind, but under the circumstances
of how this was done the very least Fox could
have done was assure us that these titles would
be offered individually soon after the boxed set release.

The fact the studio won't even comment on what
their roadmap will be, is the very thing that I am most
disgruntled about.

I have all the individual releases on Blu-ray. I picked most of them up when they were on sale for somewhere between $12 and $15. The box set is a great value for someone who doesn't own any of the Blu-rays, but for me, I just can't stomach rebuying all of the ones I have already purchased, even though I really want the rest of the collection. I really hope that either Fox announces them for early 2013 or worst case they are a retailer exclusive somewhere. I'm not a big fan of sets like this. They never seem to fit on my DVD shelves and when future Bond films come out on Blu-ray the will look silly stacked next to the case. Also some people like to organize them by year or actor, etc. I was a NO vote in the poll.

As much as I love many of the films, I have bought them for the last time. I will not double dip on the ones I have by buying this box. If they aren't released individually, then I'll have to live with the Ultimate Editions on DVD of the ones I don't already have on Blu-ray. I will not budge on this.

Fortunately I got all of the Bond Blu-rays at a pretty good discount. I got a bunch of them when Circuit City was having their "Going Out Of Business" sale, then picked up the rest when Amazon would run a deep discount. So the double dipping won't be that huge of a hit to me, plus I ordered from Amazon UK where the pre-order price was significantly lower 78.07 GBP with shipping included in the total, which as of today that would be around $124 give or take, so that also made the decision much easier to repurchase, then sell off the older ones for what ever I can get. Since even if the other 11 movies if they were available for around $14.98 street, would be about $165. So in just rebuying the others that I have for less than I would pay for the remaining 11, plus everything will actually match in a cohesive set, it's worth it to me.

Edit: One more thing, I hadn't bought any of the DVDs, so I'm only on the 2nd purchase of the current Blu-rays, so I haven't got the upgrade burnout yet with Bond. (Unlike Star Wars, which my wife said, unless they release the original pre-special editions, on Blu-ray that's it)

I wonder if part of the problem is that there are too many collectors instead of movie fans. How many of these movies do you really want to watch? The studios are banking on us buying movies we may not want when they release these sets.
My wife and I did watch all the Bond films in the theater, but after Connery and until Brosnan, I wasn't a fan of the series. I'm not interested in those movies in between. So, no box set for me. I'm not interested in a box to make the shelf look nicer, not a good enough reason.
I've only bought one set with movies I did not want, The Alien Legacy to get all the extras. I haven't bought the Star Wars set because it's too expensive for a collections of movies are such varying quality. When I comes down in price...than I'll buy.

If this is a poor seller...hello FOX! If this is a POOR SELLER (and I think it will be), YOU have NO one to blame besides yourself!
If this was the first Blu-ray release of all these titles we would be all over it! $200 is the price after a 30% discount on Amazon. But I own half of them already, so that price isn't really a great deal! And, I do not see an upgrade on those titles PQ or AQ happening! I am sure they are the same discs I already own.
Last, if they are packaged in the same type of box the Alien movies and Star Wars came in, I would still pass. I HATE those slip pockets! CHEAP!

I'm picking up the box set on pre-order. Although I have the current UK Blu releases (Dr No, FRWL, Goldfinger, Thunderball, LALD, Moonraker, FYEO, TWINE, Die Another Day, Casino Royale and QOS), I would expect the eleven remaining releases to street individually between £10 and £14 each. As the full set is around £90, I think the maths is a no-brainer. There is currently no indication when the remaining titles are to be released individually, if indeed they are released if the box set demonstrates disappointing sales. I think not buying the box set in the hope of individual releases could be a case of cutting off your nose to spite your face.

Check out Amazon U.K. Probably not region-free, but the whole set is up for 89 pounds sterling. I managed to pre-order it from there a few months back and it will cost me about $116.00 U.S. including shipping.

The only ones I want that haven't been released on Blu-Ray are ON HER MAJESTY'S SECRET SERVICE, YOU ONLY LIVE TWICE, DIAMONDS ARE FOREVER, and THE SPY WHO LOVED ME. I can likely pick all of those up for $60 or less if they are released individually, and if they aren't, it is extremely unlikely that I would pay $200 for 4 Blu-Rays. However, I simply don't believe these 4 titles will not be released individually, and in fact there are websites stating they will be available as individual releases in October.

I was a firm NO vote.

I don't think it's an IF but a WHEN the individual titles will be released.

The description they've given of the box set not only doesn't seem to add anything interesting to the package, but makes it sound like there might be less on the Blus than we already have. In one case, we know this for certain - Casino Royale, which has an excellent 2-Disc Blu-ray out. And I remember hearing about a CE of Quantum of Solace that never came out, so that could come a year from now, when Skyfall hits Blu-ray.

I have already collected Volumes 2 & 3 of the Blus, along with Dr. No as a single, Never Say Never Again and the Craig movies. And I have the UCE volumes. Buying this set for 200 bucks feels like I'd be tossing money out the window and picking up yet another giant box that won't fit in my cabinets.

I look forward to picking up the titles I really wanted on Blu, once they are available at a decent price - say $15 apiece. $75 next year feels like a better deal than $200 this year.
