I absolutely loathe MS for anti-competitive, predatory, monopolistic reasons. I can't support this beast by giving it so much as a single penny.
Besides, with so many great games now on PS2 with many more to come, plus a pretty nice outlook for GameCube I see no reason to even contemplate padding Gates' fortune further.

I was originally thinking of getting an xbox, but then I realized I already had basically an upgraded xbox....my computer. The xbox is nothing more than a stripped down pc, I bet most games will be available on pc in a matter of a few months. Plus the fact that I loathe MS makes me feel confident that I will never buy an xbox. Now only if sony would reduce the ps2 to $199 it would be a good holiday for me........

I'll probably get one eventually. I like to wait on all new systems that come out, and besides that, I need a new PC before anything else, so that's what will get my money this fall. But Xbox looks more enticing to me than the other two systems. I used to think I wouldn't get one because of Evil Microsoft, but then I remembered that I don't like Sony or Nintendo either, so it doesn't matter any which way

Aaron-
In response to the "vaccuuming ghosts, ruined metroid, pikmin" comment, I would like to say that Luigi's Mansion is supposed to be a damn fun game, Metroid is not ruined (far from it), and Pikmin is looking better and better every time I see it. Also, if you were a Metroid fan and the series being ruined or not matterred, you would buy the game anyway. True fans don't say "ewww, this series sucks now, I'll skip it" they say "I'll give it a try." You haven't even played any of those games. I can honestly say that Luigi's Mansion looks to only have competition with Dead or Alive 3.
You also forgot that the X-Box has very few good games launching. The GCN has Rogue Leader (if you don't like it, at least it looks and sounds beautiful) and a few other games. I don't see much originality in the XB launch that compares to Super Monkey Ball. And for future prospects, the GCN has Resident Evil and new Mario and Zelda games, not to mention all the other good games that are in development.
And when was the last time a company had to put a delay into a game because it loaded too fast on the X-Box? They had to with the GameCube.

When I said that Luigi's Mansion was supposed to be fun, I meant that I have not heard anything bad about it aside from its short length (to beat it once) and the fact that its not a classic style Mario game. Its addictive and fun.

The same could be said for pretty much every Xbox title -- it's a very pointless path to argue.
Morgan, you need to understand that there are quite a few people that are more eagerly anticipating the Xbox's launch than the Gamecube's, and you don't need to take it upon yourself to try to convince them otherwise. You've tried arguing every angle (many, many times), and it's just... pointless.
There *are* good games being developed for the Xbox (and several will be available before the end of the year), and the Xbox's hardware is fantastic.

How the fuck did this become yet another XBox vs. GCN debate?

It's the law. Every thread must turn into a console advocacy thread by the second page. I think it's some sort of entropy.

Its my fault. I'll admit it.
I was pointing out that someone made accusations that the GCN games sucked (one of which the person hadn't played, one of which we have seen less than 6 seconds of footage from, and another which is a strange game that will probably be a hate it or love it game). I turned that around and compared it to the XB launch games. I don't like racing games or sports games, and FPS games have not exactly been revolutionary recently, so I find little hope in the XB launch lineup. I liked Rogue Squadron, am interested in Luigi and Pikmin, and like cooky puzzle games, so the GCN launch is more my type. I know some people will like the XB launch titles over the GCN ones, but its not fair to judge things that you know nothing about so harshly. When was the last time you played Luigi, Pikmin, or Metroid Prime? Oh, and the XB games don't all look better than the GCN launch games. Halo doesn't look as good as RS, but then again, Luigi doesn't look as good as DoA3. You have to look at it both ways.
I also look forward to the XB. I'm pissed at MS for some of their decisions, but it is a powerful piece of hardware that will do to gaming what Final Fantasy did to CGI films: it will set a new benchmark for things to come. Its not totally revolutionary, but it includes things that will separate it from other consoles, such as the HDD, ethernet, HD out, 5.1 real-time, etc.
I'm just not getting one until next year. I have no reason to.

Steve J...since you are so anti-Microsoft, i'm curious what OS you're running on your PC?

Stacey

Hmm...look what I have caused. Yes, folks, the state of this thread is obviously my fault.
I'm sorry to have offended you so, Morgan. But the GC launch games do not interest me in the least...well, RS2 does, but that's it.
So far, several mags and websites (like EGM) have expressed doubt about Luigi's Mansion. From what I have read, I'm just not interested. Going from room to room capturing ghosts just seems lame.
And, YES, I firmly believe Metroid to have been ruined. Even if it turns out to be a great FPS game, it still will not be Metroid. At the very least, it should have been a 3rd person view game. How are they going to properly implement such things like Samus' ability to roll into a ball in FP view? Also, considering the massive layoffs and such that Retro has had so they could "focus" (i.e. salvage) on Metroid does not bode well...it sounds like simple desperation. Anyway, I still honestly think that if it's a good game, it will be just another FPS and spirit of the Metroid series will be gone. I could be wrong, but I doubt it at this point.
Pikmin...please, another game I have ZERO interest in. I don't care if it's good. It is obviously not my type of game. I'll just leave it to the Pokemon crowd.
Sorry, but I'll take my chances with games like Bloodwake, Halo, Amped, and DoA3 over LM, Pikmin, Metroid, and SSB:M any day. If those games interest you, that's cool with me...but they hold little to no value to me at this time.

I saw the Xbox video at TRU last night and practically every game had major amounts of slowdown in them.....that did not bode well for me. Though one of the few games that I do want had none, yeah for JSR:F
