Hey guys...

I tried doing a search, but couldn't find anything specific on the release date of Simpsons season five. It seems that with every new season we keep saying 'this is where it really got good' and I think that Season Five has some of my all time favorite episodes...

That's interesting, because the end of Season 4 is where I said Goodnight, Simpsons. Season 5, for me, was where the show took a detour and became a different, and lesser, show, IMHO.

Not only is this in the wrong forum, but next time, don't put an exclamation point in the title, but a question mark.

Chris, your thread title is very misleading. It should have a question mark, not an exclamation point.

People are going to click into here unnecessarily, as I did, looking for what appears to be definitive information on a Simpsons Season 5 DVD release.

Also, you posted in the wrong forum section. Should be in HT Software - TV Shows.

EDIT -- looks like Anthony beat me to it while I was typing.

Not that the whole exclamation-point-instead-of-a-question-mark thing is good and shouldn't be corrected, but there is a feature on this forum that allows you to place your mouse pointer over a thread link and a tooltip popup will appear with the contents of the first post... I always do this, even if the thread title is clear to me... Just a little FYI...

When Season 4 was announced for June, I really began to hope that Season 5 would be out for Christmas, but now that we are deep into September and most if not all the fourth quarter releases have been announced, it seems very unlikely that Season 5 will make it this year.

Based on the first four sets, we shouldn't really be looking for two or three sets a year. We're going to get one per year until the show is cancelled and Groenig, etc. have the time to devote to the sets.

May? I thought someone said all the commentaries were recorded this past July.

Can't wait to get Homer's Barbershop Quartet and Bart's Inner Child on DVD.

We *REALLY* need to get our voices heard in regards to this shows untimeliness on DVD.

If the show stops next year (Season 17? I believe), & we'd still be on only Season 6 next year, which means if they go to 4 a year, which is still 4 more years before our collections are completed.

By that time, we could be on to some sort of movie glasses or microchip plants implanted in our heads to watch DVDS. My point is, they need to hurry the heck up!

Do we really need a commentary on EVERY episode if it means we won't be completing our collection until at least 2009?

I do enjoy the commentary on every episode, but really, they could easily do two or three seasons' worth during the off-season.

Also, I believe the show is renewed through season 20. Could be wrong though.

I've heard much the same Anthony - I hear it's not going to die its death anytime soon as ratings and such are still pretty high.

How can they release a monthly release of Star Trek and only a yearly release of Simpsons? Even it if was only 4 a year, I would buy them... The show is popular and they need to understand that the fans are willing to pay for it.

They're not making new Star Trek (original series) episodes, and they are not recording audio commentaries for every Star Trek episode.

I thought for sure we'd have season 5 before the end of this year; I was shocked that season 4 didn't suffer any delays.

Sigh

In a thread many months ago, I was the one who posted news about the commentaries being recorded earlier than usual, and the suggestion that the latest DVD set would come out sooner than previous ones. I got this news from a website which stated that the commentaries were recorded in the summer, instead of the winter months like they usually are, and therefore, it is possible that the set could come out by the end of the year. However, this same website recently posted news that confirms what was suggested earlier in this thread...

FOX Sets Tenative Date For Season 5

Don't go marking your calendar yet! This is only a tenative date set up by FOX. May 17th. Again -- tenative. The dates are frequent to change.

Please keep in mind that TVTome is run by fans, and they'll post pretty much anything they come across. I'm not saying the information is correct, or incorrect, but the people that edit the pages on TVTome rarely lack the ability to verify the information they're sent. I've read FAR more incorrect information there than I have anywhere else.

I agree with Gord's comment. Every news item for every show being showcased on that site is provided by fans. So whether or not the person who runs "The Simpsons" guide on TVTome is correct remains to be seen. Until we have legitimate information from a reliable source, I wouldn't put a lot of stock into this information. Just my opinion.
