No. I quit buying anything HD DVD since the Warner announcement. I'm done with HDM purchases until I can get a profile 2.0 BD player for around $250. Hopefully that will happen this year. If so, I'll gladly go blu. Until then, I'll watch my handful of HD DVDs and enjoy my SD DVDs upconverted on my A3.

I was in my local Sam's Club today...it has definately become an HD-DVD Free Zone!!!

Not a disc nor player in sight. I guess they either moved'em into WalMart or back to Toshiba.

The thought of a 50 player and a short stack of 5 dollar disks sounds interesting, but I would likely be the last person to pay money for the set. If I owned a red player now it would be an easy decision on the disks.

I'd rather download HD from the internet, myself. That is until Blu-Ray prices drop

Sure I'd buy...never could resist a bargain. Than again maybe not....so few titles I want. Guess it just depends.

What made the earlier poster think that prices are going to drop on Blu-Ray disks now that there is no competition? What do you think we'd be paying for a PS3 these days if there were no X-Box 360 or Wii?

I'm own and HD DVD player and a Blu-Ray player so it doesn't really matter to me - there were pro's and con's to both but I really believe that having both around is what made everything affordable.

Are they really going to be firesaled? I hope so since I'd like to pick up some more titles, but it's really just speculation that big sales are coming right??

SD-DVD is a much tougher competitor for BD than HD-DVD ever was. The studios want mass acceptance, and they aren't going to get it at the current price points. HTF members might be happy to pay an extra $10-$20 to get a BD instead of an SD-DVD, but the average person doesn't care enough (and likely doesn't have the equipment to fully take advantage of the difference).

When SD-DVD first came out, $40 bare-bones discs weren't uncommon. It didn't *really* take off until prices got more reasonable.

As to the topic, I'll probably pick up a few more HD-DVDs when they get really cheap.

I am not surprised by this and I think they will simply be pulled from most retailers. To me, this is a shame. The consumers who are "red" shouldn't be deprived of the opportunity to purchase the discs that appeal to them. My HD DVD buying has ceased, but I am neutral. I also wouldn't pass up a good bargain on titles that interest me.

If the prices get really cheap, thinking $8-10 range, there are definitely a few titles that I don't currently own that I would like to. I would also pick up an hd a35 with the ananlog 5.1 if I could find it cheap enough (sub $100 would do).

There are also a few announced upcoming releases that i will pick up. Jesse James, Star Trek 2 Beowolf, That Clooney flick Clayton, American Gangster, but the price would need to be sub $20 for new releases in order for me to bite. Or i'll just rent the SD version and forget about HD DVD.

Amazon has all the TV sets on sale now. Smallville, Nip/Tuck and Sopranos.

Future Shop and Best Buy in Canada are pulling the software off the shelves. Rumours of "firesales" on players, but what incentive is there if the media is being yanked?

Also, Star Trek Season 2 (and presumably 3) have been canceled.

I’ve got around 24 HD-DVDs and I’m still to watch most of them, but I’ll continue to pick up ---if the price is below say $12.00--- some catalog replacements and recent releases that interest me .

I just scored the other day at BB the HD-DVD of both ‘King kong “ and “Casino” for 19.99, and just picked up a second Player from Costco just in case they are removed from the inventory, if I find one cheaper later on I can always return it.

I’m not planning on picking up any Blu players until the 2.0 models deep below the $200.00 mark, and who knows when that might happen, in the mean time all this bargain HD-DVDs titles (and up-converted Sd-DVD of new upcoming titles) will be good enough for me for a long time to come, most likely I will never buy the Blu version of any of them (especially at current high prices) or bother to upgrade much of my collection to Blu ever, since I’ve learned (with my existing SD-DVD collection) that I don’t have enough time to watch all the movies I own, much less repeat viewings.

The waiting game can be tricky, if there's something you really want. Some of the catalogue titles, especially from Universal, probably weren't manufactured in massive quantities. So if you're interested in something like Timecop or Streets of Fire, waiting for that last iota of price drop could be risky. The stock may just disappear.

Some of these titles (e.g., the two listed above) still haven't been properly issued on S-DVD. So I'm not holding my breath for Blu-ray.

I have about 40-50 discs now and picked up a new A3 at Amazon for $99 this morning. I am going to hold off buying many more discs until the prices come down even more.

I completely agree. If there is a title you are highly interested in, and you think it may not show up on Blu-ray Disc for awhile, I think the best practice here would be to buy it now via a place like Amazon that has a 30 day price protection program at a price you are comfortable with and hope for a price drop within that window.
