Who here own a Samsung 55" 4K TV?

How do you like it? How is the picture? Did you calibrate it and did you use 4k calibration software?

And lastly did you have any serious issues?

Am looking to possibly purchase this tv hopefully within the next week and it will be replacing a still functioning Sony 50" Wega HDTV (rear projection).

I wonder if it is possible to calibrate an Edge-Lit LCD and keep the Micro-Dimming.

The way the Micro-Dimming works(by altering the LCD in addition to the LED light)...suggests no.

Gregg?

Sweet!!

These sets are not a true localized dimming. They are edge lit with localized - pointed channels which aim at local areas from the edge. Great stuff / advances in technology.

I had the fantastic experience of working with Samsung NL last week. What a great group of technical people! Their new OLED is the bomb!!!

David, if you would like a professional calibration please send me an email and I will either assist you directly or refer you somebody else that can.

Regards

Gregg

Samsung 4K is way to bright so ISF calibration will help out. However, you might consider the Sony 4K, LG with a full 240Hz panel or the sharp 4K. Picture is more natural on the Sony and LG. Besides, Sony currently has more 4K contents via their 4K player than every other brands.

I almost did get the Sony 4K but I heard that with calibration the Samsung has a better picture. And the Sony 4K player was also a consideration. Not to sure about the Sharp tv's anymore and I would never buy an LG aka Goldstar. I am sure that once I get the Samsung calibrated I will not have a brightness issue. Ya I do find the back lighting to be a bit much but I know that can be fixed and it will have a great picture. Besides I will wait for a 4K disc player to come out and I totally hate buying movies to stream and putting up with lousy dolby digital.

The two tv's I was looking at was the Sony first and then the Samsung and I don't doubt I would have loved the Sony as well.

I really didn't spend my own money on the tv, my former employer matched my 401k investment so I used the money they put in to buy it :- )

I know that Samsung was offering free 4K UHD content with the purchase of a 4K tv. Did anyone get there 4K movies and documentaries from Samsung? I emailed them about it and did not receive a reply.

Dave,
I bought the 65" Curved 9000 4K Samsung last week from Best Buy. I e-mailed them or really filled out their online rebate form on which you had to include the set's serial # and a copy (Jpeg) of the store's receipt. Initially the site would not accept my request citing an invalid S/N which I had copied from the UPC label on the box. I e-mailed them about this and it turns out that the S/N had an extra character on the back of the set label, so after I included it it was accepted.

BUT today, I received an email from Samsung stating that my rebate request had been rejected as filled out on their site, and that I had to fill out a rebate form to be MAILED to them with the original store's receipt and cutting out the UPC label from the box. Luckily, I had not thrown out the box yet.

If they accept this they state it takes 10-12 weeks for the hard drive with the 4K content to be sent.

Hope this helps.
