Ironically, Vista Series has a double meaning for this film.
WFRR was filmed entirely in VistaVision due to the huge amount of effect shots. It's a shame Disney couldn't name it "VistaVision Series" :D

Wonderful! The review states that the new DVD is STILL missing the "offensive" Baby Herman footage at the beginning of the film. If this turns out to be the case, Buena Vista just lost a sale.

Excellent! I'm quite excited about this set, as I'm a big fan of the movie who never dropped the cash for the original set, since I could never find it for less than 30 dollars.

Is it confirmed that the same censorship has been carried over from the last version on the widescreen transfer?
If so, I'm going to have to pass on one of my favorite movies. :frowning:

I certainly will buy it if the footage is not censored. But if it is I see no reason to spend money on this version.

They had a perfect chance to preserve the "naughty" stuff by editing the "family friendly" pan & scan version and leaving the widescreen version intact, and they blew it. I, too, will skip this DVD.

I am fairly upset about this. However, I know that Disney will never put this back in, so I might as well buy it. I love this movie, and I have been waiting a long time for this DVD. I am getting it on release day!!!

Since I've never seen the near mythical version with Baby Herman fingering a woman, and the lack of a less than two second moment has not yet affected my perception or enjoyment of the movie (clearly not having it ruins the whole movie!) I'll have no trouble whatsoever buying this film as soon as it is out. So while the rest of you can mope about missing some animated pseudo pornographic moments involving minors I won't let its absence trouble me.

You might want to keep your eye on the TV listings. Between now and the DVD's release, it'll probably be aired on television. You'd probably be satisfied with an edited-for-television pan & scan version using a ten-year-old transfer, and you could save some money by taping it on VHS in SLP mode.

God, I hate to even come close to sounding pro-censorship, but I gotta agree with this sentiment. Is this really worth getting upset about? It was a moment of bad judgement and poor taste in a movie whose target audience is children... why weep for its loss? How much impact does this one stupid gag have on the movie? How many of you have ever even SEEN it? Do you also insist that the "penis art" be restored to the Little Mermaid cover?

So I do have reason to hold on to my VHS of this movie after all.

That settles it...I'm getting this 2-disc for the extras and the widescreen version, while I keep my VHS, pan-and-scan that it is, for historical (and occasional viewing) purposes. Yep, I have the version with the Baby Herman scene, Jessica's showing-off...was Michael Eisner's phone number in the first few VHS pressings?

Sincerely,

John Kilduff...

You can't win them all, I suppose.

P.S,

Wot, no theatrical trailer?

Why are you making fun of VHS. VHS rocks!! Especially SLP mode!!! ;)
Sorry, I could not resist. Seriously, that was a GREAT insult. I may not agree with you insulting him, but the insult was an HTF classic!

I've seen it, and it's almost nothing. The mere fact that Disney doesn't respect the consumer enough to decide for themselves, especially in a situation where you have two different presentations aimed at different age groups, is so insulting that I won't be buying the DVD. It is censorship, after all.

The Michael Eisner phone number hasn't been found in any home video version of the film. There's a good chance it never existed at all although the only way to know for sure would be to examine an original theatrical print frame-by-frame.

Why not wait until a review with PICTURES? Don't jump to conclusions because of ONE review from an often biased source...
