I'm looking to get the Replay TV model RPL RTV5504 the (40 hour one) I saw on the internet that the model has a ethernet jack. Because this model has network compatability is a phone line still needed? I currently only have a cell and a cable modem and want to be sure I can use this model before buying it.

If you connect via ethernet to a cable modem...a phone conncection is not needed.

nope, no phone line needed. i have the same unit (love it!) and it connects to the replay service in the middle of the night through the home network. MUCH faster than the phone line anyway. i had it connect once that way to check it out. SLOOOOOOW!
