Hey guys,

I'm new to the car audio scene but I'm planning on installing 2 10" solo baric L7 subs. I wanted to get the forum's thoughts on what would be the most cost efficient amp to power these two subs. I'm willing to spend up to $500 dollars and I wanted to research on which amp around this price range is considered to be the best. I am also considering the Alpine 9815(~$400) for a head unit, and I wanted to know if this is a good unit for the price. I'm open to any recommendations because neither the sub nor the head unit are final. I appreciate any help that you guys offer.

First thing's first...are the SoloBaric's the dual 2-ohm voice coil or the dual 4-ohm voice coil versions?...the reason I ask is that we need to know the impedance load that the two speakers will be presenting to the amp...

For the dual 2-ohm versions you can wire each woofer with the coils in parallel and then wire the drivers in series to present a 2-ohm load to the amp...with the dual 4-ohm version you can either wire the coils in parallel and the subs in series to present a 4-ohm load or you can wire the coils in parallel and the drivers in parallel so that the amp sees a 1-ohm load (you'll need a pretty beefy amp for this configuration)...

That being said, a few good amps to look at would be (the ones that are 1-ohm stable will be noted as such):
  • Kicker KX400.1 (400w @ 2-ohms) - $350 retail
  • MTX Thunder 421d (420w @ 2-ohms) - $300 retail
  • MTX Thunder 801d (800w @ 2-ohms) - $500 retail
  • HiFonics Brutus BX500D (250w @ 2-ohm or 500w @ 1-ohm) - $450 retail
  • HiFonics Nemesis NX750D (400w @ 2-ohm or 750w @ 1-ohm) - $550 retail
  • Xtant A6001T (600w @ 2-ohms) - $550 retail (on sale for $260 at SoundDomain right now)
  • US Acoustics USX600D (375w at 2-ohms) - $300 retail
  • US Acoustics USX800D (600w @ 2-ohms) - $370 retail
  • JBL BP-600.1 (600w @ 2-ohms or 600w @ 1-ohm) - $350 retail

...all prices listed are retail and within your $500 budget (save the Xtant, but it's on sale)...you can expect to pay anywhere from $50-$100 less if you buy online...these list is just stuff I found at one site too (SoundDomain) there are a lot of other brands out there as well...steer clear of the less respected manufacturers (Boss, Legacy, Pyramid, Ultimate) as they tend to inflate their specs...good luck!:D :emoji_thumbsup:
