I have an RCA 650 watt Surround Sound system, and for the past few months, every time I turn on my receiver, it makes a grinding noise. It usually stops after a few minutes, but it has me worried. I have had it for about two and a half years. I know this is not near top of the line, but it works great and the sound effects and such are crystal clear, but I do not know if this is the start of a major problem. Any advice? Thanks for any information you can give me.

If it reliably goes away after a few minutes, I wouldn't worry about it.
Durings those first minutes, see if the sound can be mechanically affected by rapping on the side cover or pushing on the plugs. You may have a microphonic connection somewhere inside. This is usually because of bad soldering or a poor choice of conducting material, and likely to happen at a cold start. Hitting it can cause a burst of arcing within the bad connection and kick start the recovery.
This problem can last as long as your receiver without getting any worse. No need for panic.
