It's a shame that RCA has such a bad rep these days but even
the bad rep fades when I compare the Scenium DLP to the rest
of the DLP world.

I have a 61" RCA HomeTheater 4:3 Non HD that has been going
strong now for more than 6 years, I had one problem with it
one year into ownership (bad capacitor) which was promptly
fixed under warranty. I also took out an extended warranty
on the 3 9" CRT's for an extra four years just to make sure
the most expensive parts were covered. It has functioned
flawlessly and the picture albeit non HD is still fantastic
to this day!

After looking at DLP's last weekend the Scenium simply BLEW
the competition out of the water. Not only is it one of the
thinest, it's also wall hangable and has more features and
more connectivity than the competition and the price? $3840
for the 61" HD.

Say what you want, knock them all you want but RCA does make
a couple gem's.

Actually the thin DLP Scenium is an Infocus product, Infocus light engine, Infocus patented fresnel lens to be able to make it that thin.

RCA/Thompson (French) TV's are about as reliable as the LeCar/ AMC(Renault) Alliance etc... That TV is a rebadged Infocus, that's why it rocks.

And

I talked to Infocus engineers at CEDIA when they were first displayed.

To boil it down... RCA thin rear projection is In(focus), other RCA is still bottom of the barrel.

Best buy has cut the price on the Ultra-thin 61" RCA/Infocus DLP in half. It was originally $9000 and it's down to $4500 now. I'm guessing they weren't selling alot of em at $9000, i'm not sure how many they'll sell at $4500 but it is a great looking set. Does it still have the bug the 1st gen RCA DLPs had that the input electronics were recycled from some lower end RCA sets and didn't accept 720p (a big glitch for a 720p native display)?

I just gave my 52" RCA Home Theater Premier RPTV (that replaced my 10 year old 27" RCA TV) to my ma-in-law after 5 years of trouble free use, and purchased an RCA D61W20 61" 16x9... because it had the best picture out of the ones I compared at a lower price. I believe there are many gear snobs in here who just parrot what they have heard from the other snobs.

The price drop doesn't have anything to do with how many of theese were being sold. Prices on large-screen TV's have been coming down across the board for a long time. As LCDs become cheaper to manufacture, prices on other technologies have to come down at the same time in order to remain competitive. It's great for consumers, but it can hurt retailers and manufacturers.

In a showroom with overhead fluorescent light and brightness and contrast cranked way up in torch mode?

Different strokes for different folks but I'd rather buy a $1400 Pioneer 533HD5 at Wal-Mart, it may be a 2.5 year old design but the Pioneer is solid with really good SD PQ.

Everything in your reply cries snob. Just because you don't
want a Kia does that make the Toyota a better vehicle? No.

I have seen thousands of re-calls and TSB's on Toyota's and
Hondas and amazing how a cheap Korean company like Hyundai has
the best customer service, warranty and best initial quality
(JD Powers) in the industury.

No manufacturer is without mechanical and electrical failures.
And I am not stating that Tompson Electronics has done right
by the RCA name in fact I wish RCA was back in the U.S. where
they belong. But I went with an RCA and have not been displeased
with it's performance yet. I don't run my set in "Torch Mode"
and it still has a more vivid, bright, sharp image than any of
it's competitors in the non HD class and I looked at them all
before I bought my set.

InFocus is not a bad company and if they can infuse more quality
into RCA in the process who am I to complain?

I would certainly buy the Scenium 61" DLP, of course I would
also get the extended warranty (just like I would with any
other brand). I am not one who upgrades sets every three
years like some do.

Everything cries snob? If you call years of practical experience and not recommending $5000 displays snobbery then caveat emptor.

Please, let's stop calling people snobs and such. RCA-branded sets sometimes are home runs, while others leave much to be desired. The company seems to be getting its act together again.

Wow the HTF has changed a bit since I quit posting a while
ago.

Consider the thread dead, I won't bother putting my two cents
in any more posts.
