This weekend whilst picking up my Ministry ticket I browsed the cd rack. Picked up Great White "A Double Dose". Disk one is Zeppelin covers and disk two is covers of various others, The Cult, AC/DC, Stones, Bad Company, etc... and my favorite so far, Bob Dylons cover of Tangled Up in Blue. It is a really really really good cover.

Roger, Dan-o! I was in Busted Buy and the Disc Exchange this eve and neither had that Great White in stock. I did pick up a Los Lobos cover EP, RIDE THIS. I'm gonna listen to it later after a little Elton. Thanks for the tip, I'll keep my eye out for that Great White. I have enough covers left to make more discs than I'm likely to make anyway...for now...:)

Hey, hey, Van the Man! Have you run into any covers of his songs? I know he's done a few things lately, like on How long has this been goin' on, but people almost never do his stuff... I think I heard a cover one time, of Into the Mystic or Moondance maybe, by a couple of girls? Might have been the Roaches? I wish I could come up with some details... :frowning:

HERE COMES THE NIGHT by Them is a Van song, he sang it. I never checked the writing credits. I used A David Bowie cover of it. Cassandra Wilson's cover of TUPELO HONEY is very nice. It has a few of Jimi Hendrix's ANGEL lyrics weaved in to boot. I've heard several groups do Bown-Eyed Girl but can't remember whom...? That's about all I can think of at the moment...

Have you got a copy of the Elektra anniversary double album "Rubaiyat"? All "reinterpretations" [read: fancy covers] and I can't stand most of them, but Bjork doing "Motorcycle Mama". And no, since Van Morrison was the lead singer for Them, that's not what I'd call a cover. You know there were a few weeks in 1969 when he shared a stage with Jim Morrison? That must have been quite, mm, interesting. :)

Christopher, I do not. I have beaucoups of albums but never heard of that one. So many albums, so little time. Have you been to the All Music Guide and put in Brown-Eyed Girl or Madame George in the search? You know you'll get the most hits on Moondance! I could swear I recently saw an album somewhere that had a cover of Madame George on it...? I'm not remembering it though,,,sorry.

The way I see it Them was the Van Morrison Group. Them didn't last long. I think Astral weeks came out in '67 or '68 and Them was a footnote in history. A good footnote though! The Bowie cover of Here Comes The Night is righteous, IMO. It seems like I have another cover of that song but it's escaping me at the moment.:)

Neat. I only wish Domino would get some action, possibly my favourite Morrison cut tho' the album is badly mastered [spun it just the other day].
Sorry, I think I misunderstood what you said about Them... never mind.
Are you sure about that Animals track? They had a tendency to change the lyrics on the songs they did; makes classifying them as "covers" problematic.

Christopher, I've never heard a Domino cover. I know I have heard Brown-Eyed Girl more than once. I may even have Brown-Eyed Girl? However, for now I cannot recall. MISUNDERSTOOD is an old song, everybody does it, stille. I have lots of covers of it. This is atleast the 2nd version of it I've used on my series.

BTW, I'm making atleast one more disc and Madame George will be on it. I never seem to run out...:)

Again, back around 1990, SHOOTING GALLERY, a group featuring at least one ex-member of HANOI ROCKS, covered "Brown-Eyed Girl" on their debut (and only) album. It wasn't bad...

Just remembered...the band who covered "Domino" was called PRIVATE LIFE, and indeed, there were two women in the group.
