Jack, I got a kick out of the "Serious" and "popular" classifications. :) What does "serious" mean in this context? Revolver is one of the greatest recorded things ever, serious or not. :emoji_thumbsup:

You call that a "Super Easy" question? You can't have just one IMO.

Well in direct apposition to ridiculously long lists, here are three off the top of my head...

Breakfast in America - Supertramp

Angel Dust - Faith No More

Animals - Pink Floyd

"Serious" implies that the emphasis is on the actual music - such as it's structure. It's more purely musical. "Popular" is mostly about the words, performers and actual performance.

Thanks, Seth, nice definition. Interestingly enough, the Beatles made (some of?) the only "popular" music the structure of which stands up to serious musical analysis.

Jack,

Can you post a link to where I can purchase the work you cited-Sibelius: Symphony No. 2 in D Major, Op. 43, performed by the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra?

The Beatles' "Abbey Road".

It's the 2nd album I ever bought, some 33 years ago. In all that time, throughout countless plays, I've never gotten tired of it. The perfect swan song from the greatest band that ever was (or ever will be).

It's a tough call to pick just one album, but I would go with Revolver, Rubber Soul & Abby Road are close also I'm not sure why but I like Back in Black by ACDC also, the there's many of the Who, Pink Floyd, Yardbirds etc. etc.

However it may have been a big feat for a "pop" band at the time...along with (or because of) Dylan they changed the face of popular music into something to be listened to rather than simply played.

Aerial Boundaries - Michael Hedges. I could listen to this 24x7 for the rest of my life and still not catch all the nuances of his wonderful guitar-playing.

Damn you. You beat me to the punch. :)

Tori Amos' "Under the Pink" is nothing short of magic, sheer magic.
