Just interested to know what shows there are (if any) that you've heard about or maybe read about here or on TV Party or maybe just saw in one of the television encyclopedias that you would take a chance on if it was released. Pre-1980 only, please.

I'd maybe want to check out Laugh-In, on the chance that it might be funny. But I suspect it probably isn't as amusing as the homages to it in Austin Powers. I fear it probably would be more like the Carol Burnett Show but in brighter colors. But I'd give it a try.

Hey, I'm 23, in case you're wondering about demographics.

It's way at the bottom of my priorities, but I wouldn't mind owning the entire I Dream of Jeannie series some day, along with that one TV-movie released decades later. I should check the site to see if any of it's out...I was watching a repeat of it not too long ago and some of it's still kinda funny, or at least genuinely cute. And the eye candy never gets old.

I'd also like at least one classic cartoon pre-80s. That short Hercules cartoon? Y'know, with the really annoying centaur named Newton, where Daedalus was usually the main villain, and Herc had a ring he put on for strength? Would definitely like to own that.

I'm trying to remember if there're any other pre-80s animated shows that I wanted to buy...

Peter, I have to tell you, you have good instincts. Of what you listed:

DRAGNET (1950s version) - Classic show, much better
than 60s version.
WAY OUT - Great. I watched them all at the Museum of
Broadcasting.

T.H.E. CAT - Great show
BUS STOP - Great show
THE BLUE LIGHT - Great show
CAPTAIN NICE - Not great, but has it's moments

These I've only had limited exposure to (I've only watched an episode or two, at most), but would buy on DVD:

ALFRED HITCHCOCK'S 'SUSPICION' - On par with AHP
THE INVADERS - Great Sci-Fi
THE UNTOUCHABLES - Classic
ROUTE 66 - On par with Naked City
77 SUNSET STRIP - I can't recommend this one. I find it to be quite boring.
CORONET BLUE - One of my all-time favorites and really a lost gem.

Funny thing is, what with cable and DVD, the younger folks of today probably have more access to older shows than those of us closer to 40 ever did.

I'm 36 and grew up in NYC where we didn't have CableTV at all until fairly recently. So whatever I saw was basically in rerun on WOR or WPIX or I didn't see it at all.

Loved those old Abbot and Costello movies though.

Eric, the irony of that is that they never show much of a diverse slate of any shows before 1990 (or after, for that matter).

FYI, there were two TV movies. One was called "I Dream of Jeannie: 15 Years Later" and the other was called "I Still Dream of Jeannie". Both starred Wayne Rogers as Tony Nelson.

Actually, only the first "Jeannie" movie featured Wayne Rogers.

The charavter of Tony Nelson doesn't even appear in the second movie, as they explain he is on an outer space mission.

Neither of the movies were very good.

The first season of "Jeannie" is on the way, as there is a promo for it on the "Bewitched Season 2" DVD.

I very much want to collect The Rockford File shows because I generally enjoy '70s cop shows (I'm 38). Same thing for Kojak. But because they're Universal releases, I'm weary of getting them.
